Arkansas State University-Newport has an opening for a Director of Nursing. This is a full-time position (12-month appointment) at the Newport campus. This position will require travel to the Jonesboro and Marked Tree campuses.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the nursing program within the College. The Director is accountable for ensuring the program's compliance with accreditation standards, developing and implementing the curriculum, overseeing faculty, and preparing students for successful nursing careers.Key Responsibilities:Provide strategic vision and direction for the nursing program to meet the college's educational and workforce development goals.Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate the nursing curriculum to ensure alignment with industry standards and best practices.Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate full-time and adjunct nursing faculty to deliver high-quality instruction.Oversee the management of nursing program resources, including facilities, equipment, and supplies.Ensure the nursing program maintains approval and regulatory compliance through ongoing monitoring and reporting.Collaborate with college administration, industry partners, and community stakeholders to identify and address nursing workforce needs.Coordinate clinical placements and partnerships with healthcare organizations to provide students with practical learning experiences.Assist the Dean in developing the nursing program's budget, including preparing grant proposals and securing external funding.Ability to manage the nursing programs budget in conjunction with the instructors on each campus.Promote the nursing program and its accomplishments to prospective students, alumni, and the community.Serve as a subject matter expert and advocate for the nursing program within the college and externally.Continuously assess program outcomes, such as student retention, licensure pass rates, and graduate employment, to drive continuous improvement.Develop and implement remediation techniques to increase retention in nursing programs. This includes educating faculty on the implementation of remediation techniques to ensure student success.Stay abreast of current lectures and clinical content to further assist instructors in both the classroom and clinical setting when needed.Qualifications:- Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing- Master's degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, or a related field- Minimum of 2 years of experience in nursing education, with a proven track record of successful programadministration- Strong knowledge of nursing curriculum development, instructional methodologies, and accreditation standards- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills- Proficient in data analysis and the use of technology to support nursing education- Experience securing external funding and managing program budgetsThe Director of Nursing in a community college setting plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of nurses, preparing students for successful careers, and meeting the healthcare workforce needs of the local community.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEThe ideal candidate will have a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialty in education and evidence of successful experience in management of nursing academic programs. A Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution of higher education is required. Must have a minimum of two years of nursing education experience.RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS, PROPERTY and EQUIPMENTResponsible for the maintenance of all division recourses and equipment.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESProvides leadership to all full-time and part-time nursing faculty and simulation coordinatorCOMMUNICATION SKILLSExcellent communication skills are required. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals so others will understand; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from faculty, administration or the general public.CRITICAL THINKING SKILLSAbility to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of unknown variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDUnder general direction of the Dean of Nursing and Health Professions, working from policies and general directives.ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENTKnowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.PLANNINGConsiderable responsibility with regard to general assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work, in addition, the work operations of a group of employees.DECISION MAKINGPerforms work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision-making of major importance and also frequent opportunity for decision-making of significant importance, either of which would significantly affect the operations of the College.IMPACT OF DECISIONSRequires making decisions that impact the results of co-workers, clients or the College.
