Here, we help each other be the best we can be: a team big enough to impact and small enough to care.We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Editor to join our team on a 12 month fixed term contract.Role SummaryWhat will you be doing? The Editor provides an efficient peer review service across a number of journals and contributes to improvements in quality of service for authors and reviewers. Working under the management of the Peer Review Team Manager, the Editor helps to achieve the goals for that group, supporting and supervising junior colleagues, such as Associate Editors. In collaboration with the Journals Development team you will support initiatives aimed at improving our journals, capturing quality content and increasing market share through knowledge of the subject area and community engagement.Key job accountabilities: Demonstrating expertise in the peer review process, including reviewer selection, decision making on articles, ethical misconduct cases, efficient handling of papers at every stage, mentoring and supervising others within the peer review teams.Contributing to the management of reviewer pools and reviewer performance.Working well with external Editors, partners and Editorial Boards in support of the journal(s) and participating in Editorial Board meetings.Supervising and coaching Associate Editors.Working collaboratively with the Publisher/s to help to develop journal strategy and to build relationships with key institutions and authors to help ensure growth targets are met.About youThe successful applicants should demonstrate the following: Professional qualifications Degree (or PhD) in a relevant scientific subject.Broad knowledge and interest in science.Experience and understanding of the peer review process, preferably at a scholarly publisher.Ability to assess complex situations.Ability to take responsibility, to work autonomously but also as part of a team, motivating others.Excellent communication and networking skills and the ability to build relationships.Good team working skills.We know it is unusual for someone to tick every box so, if you don’t meet all the criteria, but demonstrate most of the skills and experience we are looking for, and have the enthusiasm to work with us, go ahead and apply.We pride ourselves on being a flexible and inclusive employer, if you have a preference to work flexibly please do apply.Who We AreIOP Publishing is a society-owned scientific publisher, providing impact, recognition and value for the scientific community.As the publishing arm of the Institute of Physics, 100% of our profit goes towards public and scientific good.Why work with us at IOP Publishing: Purpose:We are a world leader in the development of electronic publishing for the scientific community - working in the interests of science and scientists, we aim to maximise the impact of the research we publish.Culture:We offer a truly international culture with offices in Europe, Asia and the US and our reach is global.
