About the role
The Legal Contracts Manager role will primarily support ODI’s Legal Counsel with the management and negotiation ODI’s contract processes for a high value international donor project award and relationship management of key stakeholders internally and externally. The Legal Contract Manager will support with the legal review of other ODI contracts, sub-contracts and other legal matters as and when capacity allows.
A key aim for this role will be to help the charity to reduce its contract risk profile by providing creative and pragmatic legal solutions for different types of contracts to be implemented across different types of global partners and third parties ODI will engage with under this award to ensure legal compliance.
You should have experience in drafting framework agreements, novation agreements, training workshop agreements, blended training agreements or similar, logistical agreements and NDAs. In addition, relevant experience working for USAID and/or similar UN funding entities.
The successful candidate will also provide ad hoc support to the ODI Legal team on contract review and negotiations when capacity allows.
About you
The successful applicant will have a legal qualification and strong experience of working within a contracts and compliance role. The applicant is expected to have detailed knowledge of all the issues that may arise and will be expected to have sufficient broad-based knowledge and experience to support ODI in responding effectively.
Essential
Knowledge and Qualifications
Qualification in English law preferable
Strong knowledge of contract legislation and its application
Experience
Experience of working across different aspects of a contract’s lifecycle, from tender and negotiation to final agreement.
Knowledge of charity law or experience of working in a charity would be advantageous
Knowledge of donor and regulatory body contract compliance issues such as USAID or other UN agencies would be advantageous
Skills/Abilities
Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
Excellent analytical and writing skills
Good presentation and networking
Ability to work in a team and with non-specialist staff
Ability to work on own initiative and be task focused
