WHAT TO EXPECT The Process team works within Manufacturing Engineering’s core engineering function and is responsible for defining and further development of new /existing manufacturing technologies and processes as well as installing new facilities globally.The role of process engineer will be responsible for aspects of the definition and development of the several manufacturing processes relating to the commodity of batteries required for the in-house manufacture of stacks/modules and packs. The individual will drive the development of a quality-focused, lean manufacturing processes for our early development of our electric propulsion systems for the future.You’ll be part of a team of engineers, the role requires collaboration across functions to ensure we have established compliance with the BOP to deliver processes that meet our basic minute value (BMV) and quality targets, visits to the plants to verify compliance of process to BOP and to identify any further improvements will be part of core activities. It is also important for us to share best practice across the platforms and between manufacturing plants to ensure we employ the best processes available wherever possible. Key Responsibilities Generate and develop a number of Bill of Process (BoP) and development for complete battery production facilities. Able to demonstrate that the process sequence will meet JLR cost, quality, and volume requirements, Commodity Library & Commodity Strategy. Driving lessons learnt from current programs into Bill of processPR-AIMS resolution, Current problem investigation and supportGenerate the specification, sourcing, integration, and management of multiple pieces of production equipment covering a wide range of manufacturing processes including adhesive dispensing, laser welding, assembly & test and automationLead the development and improvement of several key manufacturing processes to support in house manufacturing and vertical integration of the battery pack elementsEnsuring that all battery designs are optimized for manufacturing and to ensure manufacturing safety, cost and quality can be delivered when volume manufacture ensues. This will make a strong contribution to the product development engineering group in developing design standards which align with the manufacturing BoP and ensures the flexibility that will be required to enable cost effective volume manufactureContribute to ensuring that all new technology opportunities are robustly evaluated from a business, technical and programme perspective at key stages during the technology management processContribute to project management activities to ensure that technical deliverables are achieved within time and budget constraints. This will involve working with a range of partners within JLR and potentially external to the businessDeveloping innovative areas of the manufacturing process that will enable the implementation of class leading product featuresContribute to the development of the wider JLR team in respect to upskilling and skill development in the activities assisting the manufacture of the battery pack unitsSupport the Forward planning and programme teams in developing cost studies through Programme phases up to uPSCManufacturing engineering contribution within agile teams. Application of Lean Manufacturing and Design principles. Feasibility of all designs to suit manufacturing build requirements – Design for manufacturing (DFM)Process Capability of all processes and equipment, including Dimensional Management applicationsManage technical issues and escalate where appropriateSupport virtual build events, raising and managing issues where appropriateSupport physical builds at Plant locations, raising and managing issues where appropriateLead a team to secure capable and safe production lines on time, on budget with correct throughput WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Experience of process development of complex technology projects from conception through to ImplementationCan demonstrate a record of proactive delivery and commitment to meeting deadlines in previous projects. Budget management experience an advantageAbility to lead and work as part of a team is essential, as is the ability to achieve results by meeting deliverables and commitmentsGood knowledge of PC Applications (Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, docs etc. MS Project an advantage)Ability to manage 3D models tools (CAD) and mechanical engineering principlesValid UK driving licence or other suitable arrangements for personal business travelWillingness to travel both in the UK and internationally as required by the roleDeep knowledge of Geometrical, Dimensional & Tolerancing (GD&T)Mechanical engineering degree or similarMembership of a recognised professional body would be an advantageMS Access database knowledge an advantageIdeally educated to Degree level or above in an engineering discipline. HNC or HND or similar would be acceptable if a level of relevant SO WHY US?
