Mechanical and Electrical Designer (Asset Management)

You will need to ensure the provision and successful delivery of mechanical and electrical services. Ideally you will have experience across a range of sectors including defence, commercial, industrial, retail, healthcare, education, and leisure within both public and private domains.This role will include all aspects of a mechanical and electrical engineering consultancy. You must be able to carry out calculations, estimate costs and manage finances for project budgets. You will have the passion and drive to manage projects in accordance with the clients brief and programme, developing good business and customer relations. Your works will range from site surveys through to conceptual design, controlling and maintaining the quality of work in accordance with Tetra Tech policies and standards as well as providing ad hoc advice and guidance to our clients.Having a strong building services engineering background, either as a tradesperson or through an M&E career, you will have excellent knowledge of engineering plant, equipment and a detailed understanding of applicable building services standards.The position will include:Undertaking field works including energy & engineering audits, energy & engineering surveys, reports and projectsCustomer meetings and presentationsSurveying and performance reportingAbility to communicate and influence at all levelsAble to manage, influence and motivate team membersBuild and maintain excellent client relationshipsWork effectively whilst under pressurePlan ahead and prioritise workloadAppraise pre-tender D&B employers requirements and specifications to advise pre-construction team of responsibilities and potential risks and opportunitiesProduction and monitoring of project design delivery plansPreparation of external design consultants scope of worksDraft external design consultants appointments including milestone deliverables schedulesImplementation of procedures for the flow and quality of design information through to the pre-construction and operational teamsManagement of design, design co-ordination and interfacing between all professional partiesEnsuring the contractual obligations of the employers requirements are understood and fulfilledOffer engineering solutions to improve value, efficiency or reduce capital costUndertake gap analysis and engineering appraisals on 3rd party designsPrepare and issue monthly design progress reportsComplete detailed review of external designers submissions, including building physicsCapture and all project variations during the design processAttend tender interviews, client meeting and project meetings, representing TetraTech as and when requiredAssist operational colleagues with project technical supportWhere required, review statutory compliance documentation pertaining to Building Regulations, H&S and fire safetyIdentify issues which may affect other projects in the broader portfolio and share information using available resources and generate portfolio wide analysis for reporting to asset management team and clientsUndergo a full DBS (CRB), SC check if requiredThe ability to win work and develop further business opportunities through relationship building will also be a key requirement of the role.Technical / CommercialWorking closely with the project management team and other heads of practice, you will be required to prepare tenders and quotations for the asset management teamSupport the asset management team in identifying ways to reduce cost, improve efficiency and drive best value across client portfolios.Develop solutions based on relevant best practiceContributes to the delivery of innovative solutions for clientsEnsure that costs are managed and controlled to ensure the achievement of project profitabilityEnsures that all project in bid submissionsAbout youEssentialExperience with both a consultancy and a contractorSeveral years in a design focused position (mechanical or electrical, ideally both)Experience with asset life cycle replacement projects and identifying alternative solutionsDecarbonisation / net zero projectsM&E, HVAC & BMS Controls technical engineering expertiseHVAC plant performance review expertiseM&E plant maintenance and audit expertiseHVAC planned maintenance formation, specifications and tenderingBuilding Services Asset and Condition SurveyingHVAC / M&E plant condition reviews, lifecycle and preparation of capital expenditure forecastsCompliance reviews and auditsEnergy Audits and SurveysThe production of reports and technical papersProject Management for small M&E project and energy saving initiativesContract management and deliveryThe skill set and passion for both engineering and leadership with the ability to manage and deliver mechanical engineering concept design across a wide range of sectors.Proven experience of working in Revit and Navisworks software to support the engineering team and to achieve the successful delivery of projects.You will hold as a minimum security clearance to MOD SClevel and ideally be at or able to attain clearance to DV level.Experience of working within the built environmentExperience of interpreting information and undertaking analysis of information from differing sources to formulate a conclusionRobust project and programme management capabilityAbility to work away from the home office and potentially abroadEducated to at least degree level or equivalent in mechanical / Electrical engineering, building services engineeringChartered and member of relevant body (working towards this will be considered)Experience in the management of building services projects from concept through to handoverProven ability to develop designs conscious of energy conservation, sustainability and with a knowledge basis of renewable technologiesStrong communication skillsAbility to teach and mentor junior engineers to aid their development and improve the quality of engineering outputDesirableExperience within a similar role, preferably within an outsourced building services or facilities/asset management roleKnowledge of asset management principles.Change control experience within projectsBuilding strong working
