Mechanical Fitter
Location: Sandy, Bedfordshire
Hours: Monday to Thursday 8:00am to 5:00pm with � for lunch, Friday 8:00am to 1:00pm. Start and finish times are negotiable by � hour - 39 hrs/wk
The Client are designers and manufactures of special purpose machines.
Job Description:
To carry out the mechanical assembly and detailed fitting of special purpose machinery. Knowledge of bearing fits, jacking & pneumatic systems, chain and belt drives, conveyors and complete machine builds from chassis frames upwards.
Key Accountabilities:
* Assemble and fit the mechanical elements of machines, dealing with rectification work and engineering changes as appropriate.
* Lead machine build orders appointed to you, throughout the build stage on the shop floor.
* Complete basic machining and fabrication of parts as necessary.
* Maintain production build documentation and complete forms as required by in-house procedures.
* Liaise with in-house personnel as required to resolve build and design issues.
Qualifications/Experience
Essential
* Engineering qualification (City & Guilds, Apprenticeship etc.) or equivalent experience.
* Ability to read and understand engineering drawings & schematics
Desirable
* Level 2 or above, or BTEC ONC / HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
* Qualified in Electrical Fitting/Engineering.
Skills:
Essential
* Experience with building special purpose machinery or experienced in the building of mechanical devices.
* Good knowledge of mechanical principles
* The use of standard measuring equipment.
* Experience with bench craft (marking out, filing, and shaping), general machining (drilling & sawing), use of power hand tools (drilling, grinding, and sawing), fitting thread helicoils & rivnuts, using adhesives as detailed within drawings and SOP's.
Desirable
* Fitting pneumatics
* Electrical wiring of panels, Pilz safety relays, motors, and general machine builds.
* Fabrication & machining using presses, centre lathe, milling, grinding & polishing.
