Senior Test Engineer - DefencePermanent, salary: up to £60,000 depending on experienceBased on site in Bedford40 hours a week (Mon – Fri, 08.00 – 16.30 or 08.30 – 17.00)Benefits: Generous holiday allowance, Contributory pension scheme (matched up to 10% by the company), Life Cover, healthcare cashback plans + more available!We’re looking for a Senior Test Engineer to join the Special Vehicles arm of a leading Automotive Test facility who validate, test and support military vehicles for UK MoD and OE manufacturers.Whilst most of the time will be onsite in Bedford, working with the latest R&D technology you’ll also travel internationally to visit stakeholders and support testing (this could be up to 30% of the time) - so make sure your passport is to hand! Due to the sensitive nature of this Defence work, security clearance is required; you’ll need to be a UK Passport holder, resident in the UK for the last 5 years.What would the Senior Test Engineer – Defence do?
Work within a team of engineers and technicians to co-ordinate and supervise test activityProvide technical support to technicians and stakeholdersDevelop test capabilities within the military vehicle subject areaDesign new test techniques and put forward novel solutions to existing problemsDevelop test scenarios with customers and other departmentsLiaise with the customer and test authorities to ensure test plans meet specific requirementsCommunicate requirements of test programs clearly to other staff and external agenciesSpecify data capture needs in order to meet customer requirementsReport test results and anomalies to the stakeholders in a neat and timely mannerMake engineering judgements re performance of the customer vehicles and quality of dataWrite test reports, and report the results and conclusions to customersConduct analysis, validate data & investigate sources of errors, resolve technical issuesProvide off-site support when required
What skills and experience will the Senior Test Engineer – Defence need?
Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant Engineering disciplineVehicle testing and general data acquisition understanding and abilityKnowledge of sensor types & applications, electronics + circuitry, vehicle mechanical systemsSound engineering background, and confident when dealing directly with customersSelf-motivated and forward thinking with a right first-time attitude & willingness to learnKnowledge of the standards and regulations required to support the military vehicle approval process - desirableFlexibility to support test activity both off-site and outside of normal working hoursFull UK driving licence & own transport (the site is not easily accessible via public transport)
