You will work closely with the London office, T&E leadership and a wide spectrum of business lines to establish and provide oversight of regulatory compliance, training, safety, flight operation and standard practices both on-site and at a variety of test facilities. The challenges you will face will be innumerable and unpredictable, but you will be expected to work with cross functional teams to find resolutions that enable test flight activity in the EMEA region.WHAT YOU'LL DO
Engage with the Civil Aviation Authority & Military Aviation Authority on a variety of regulatory issues and advise on internal flight test planning & procedures
Build-out Anduril UKs MAA organization
Design Operational Safety Case (OSC) requirements for specific category flight profiles in UK and European airspace
Operate target drones, initially focused on group 1-2 sized aircraft including various quad-rotor and fixed wing, for test engineering
Assemble and operate drones for manual and autonomous flight
Help our Integration Engineers with a variety of operational tasks that enable engineering, such as flight execution, material prep, or supporting test profiles by participating in flight tests
Assist in sourcing components and airframes for testing against our Air Defense systems
Work with our engineering teams to provide flight support for the Air Defense system, this includes waypoint planning, and managing the suite of air vehicles that are available for use
Become the accountable safety manager for flight operations in the region and ensure your team conforms to Anduril’s wider policies and best practices
Assist our onsite team maintain UK based flying sites
Travel to various test sites and offices depending on testing requirements and team needs
Construct high-level test plans and test procedures centred around envelope expansion and exercising UK Engineering payloads, sensors, algorithms and autonomous behaviors.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Significant knowledge and understanding of UK Airspace regulations and operating restrictions, including Notice to Aviation.
Knowledge and experience navigating the Defense Air Environment Operating framework as laid out in RA 1160, including adding RPAS to the MAR and specific category categorization
RC pilot experience on both rotary and fixed wing in the Open Categories
Experience submitting Operational Authorization and associated documentation requests with the CAA
Maintain a Flyer ID, a GVC for Rotary and Fixed Wing & have experience as the accountable person with an Operator ID related to UAS activity in the UK
Experienced with Pixhawk, ArduPilot and other flight controllers, including physical setup, configuration and operations
Experience testing and troubleshooting electrical, electronic, and avionic systems
Knowledge of CAN bus protocols such as MIL-STD-1553 and OpenCyphal (formerly known as UAVCAN)
Ability to travel 50+% of the time and commute weekly to a London based office
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to own a variety of tasks in an autonomous environment
Able to work extended hours as required
Strong customer service mentality
Ability to de-construct and deliver results against complex tasks
Valid driver’s license
Able to lift 20kg overhead without support
Ability to obtain a U.K Security Check (SC) or higher clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
B1 or B2 Engineer or CAA Private Pilots License (PPL)
Flight Radiotelephony Operator’s License (FRTOL)
Understanding of Defense standard 00-970 Part 9, NAVAIR, AS91
