It serves students aged 11 to 18 and is recognised for its strong academic performance, being the highest performing secondary in Wellingborough for the Progress 8 measure and holds a Quality Mark Character School designation.\n\nThey are looking for an inspirational, committed and motivated Head of English to lead and make a difference to their successful and well-resourced faculty.\n\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES \nLeadership & Management\n* Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.\n* Develop and implement the department's curriculum, ensuring alignment with national standards.\n* Monitor and improve student outcomes, including exam performance and literacy levels.\n* Support, mentor, and develop teaching staff within the department.\n* Conduct performance reviews and provide professional development opportunities.\n* Manage departmental budgets, resources, and timetables.\nTeaching & Learning\n* Deliver high-quality English lessons, setting a strong example for other teachers.\n* Oversee lesson planning, assessment strategies, and differentiation to support all students.\n* Implement and promote innovative teaching methods and use of technology.\n* Ensure effective intervention strategies for students who need additional support.\nCurriculum Development\n* Review and update the English curriculum to meet the needs of students and exam board requirements.\n* Introduce new texts, topics, and pedagogical approaches to keep the curriculum engaging.\n* Develop enrichment activities such as reading clubs, competitions, and theatre trips.\nAssessment & Data Analysis\n* Monitor student progress through assessments, data analysis, and feedback.\n* Use data to inform teaching strategies and improve student performance.\n* Prepare reports for senior leadership and external stakeholders (e.g., Ofsted, governors).\nCollaboration & Communication\n* Work closely with senior leadership, other heads of department, and support staff.\n* Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and external agencies when necessary.\n* Promote English across the school through events, literacy initiatives, and cross-curricular projects.\n\n\nREQUIREMENTS\nEssential Qualifications & Experience\n* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.\n* Degree in English, English Literature, or a related subject.\n* Proven experience teaching English at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.\n* Experience in a leadership or management role (e.g., Second in Department, Key Stage Coordinator).\nSkills & Competencies\n* Strong leadership and people management skills.\n* Ability to inspire and motivate both students and staff.\n* Excellent knowledge of the English curriculum, assessment frameworks, and exam specifications.\n* Strong organisational and time management skills.\n* Data analysis skills to track progress and implement interventions.\n* Effective communication skills with staff, students, and parents.\n* Ability to develop and implement innovative teaching strategies.\nPersonal Attributes\n* Passion for English and commitment to high-quality education.\n* High expectations for student achievement and behaviour.\n* Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced school environment.\n* Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.\nDesirable Criteria\n* Master's degree in Education, English, or a related field.\n* Experience working with external exam boards and curriculum development.\n* Familiarity with educational technology and digital learning tools.\n\nHOW TO APPLY:\nReady to take the next step?
