Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) / Cover Supervisor - Blaenau Gwent
Location: Blaenau Gwent
Salary: Starting from £100 per day
Working Hours: Part-time, full-time, and ad-hoc roles available (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm)
We are seeking an experienced Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) or Cover Supervisor to join a school in Blaenau Gwent. In this role, you will be supporting teachers by delivering high-quality education to students across the Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2, covering lessons in the absence of the regular class teacher, and supporting students with additional needs where necessary.

About the Role:


As an HLTA or Cover Supervisor, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising and delivering lessons in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring that students remain engaged and work effectively.
  • Supporting the delivery of lessons by helping students to understand tasks and learning materials.
  • Assisting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Additional Learning Needs (ALN) to ensure they are fully supported in their learning.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and fostering an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Supporting small groups or individual students, helping them achieve their individual learning goals.
  • Assisting teachers in preparing learning resources and activities.
  • Helping maintain an effective learning environment, ensuring classroom activities run smoothly.

The Ideal Candidate:


We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience as an HLTA or Cover Supervisor in a school setting, with a strong understanding of classroom management.
  • Holds a Level 4 qualification or higher in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or similar) or has relevant experience.
  • Demonstrates a patient, proactive, and adaptable approach to working with children, especially those with SEN/ALN.
  • Has the ability to support students with diverse needs, including behavioural challenges or learning difficulties.
  • Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with staff, students, and parents.
  • Is committed to continuing professional development and training.

Essential Requirements:


To apply, you must have:

  • At least 3 months' experience working as an HLTA, Cover Supervisor, or in a similar role within an educational setting.
  • A Level 4 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or similar) or equivalent experience.
  • A fully enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
  • EWC registration (Education Workforce Council) as a school learning support worker.
  • A strong understanding of classroom management and differentiated learning.
  • The right to work in the UK.
