About Us
COFCO is a global agri-business that employs around 11,000 people in 35 countries. Our UK operations are active at every stage of the grains and oilseeds supply chain, purchasing all types and grades of combinable crops from farmers across the UK. The company markets and distributes these to a growing customer-base in the food, feed and bioenergy sectors at home and abroad.
The Role
We now have an exciting opening for a Trainee Commodity Buyer to join our expanding team, based at our office in Ipswich .
This is a great opportunity for someone who has previous relationship/account management experience who wants to build upon their skills with exposure to a new industry. The ideal candidate will spend their first few months in a rotation through the business to gain foundation knowledge of how the different departments work and how this fits into the business overall. They will then join the Commodity Buying Team and will be mentored and coached as they learn and develop into the role.
The main purpose and responsibilities of the role will include:
Purchasing grain, pulses and oilseeds from farms and selling seed fertiliser and other crop products.
Working with the rest of the team to identify prospective customers, promote the benefit of trading with COFCO UK, and open new accounts.
To ensure that accounts are paid within terms agreed, and customer credit is controlled.
To undertake on farm grain sampling and assist with the overall organisation of this.
To assist the Team by handling queries, data entry including contracts and information to support the CRM system.
To ensure the maintenance of an effective working knowledge of all crops/commodities traded, and of seed/fertiliser and other crop products sold.
No previous industry experience is required, however previous exposure to sales, purchasing or account management would be beneficial. The role would suit someone who is confident and enjoys engaging with new people and building relationships. You need to be committed to growing your knowledge of the trading side of the agricultural industry.
In Return
In return for your talents we offer a generous salary and commission package within a structured salary framework based on personal performance, 25 days holiday per year increasing by a day a year to 30 days after 5 years service, contributory pension scheme and life assurance. Free car parking and a relaxed, flexible working environment.
