FINDING THE RIGHT COMPANY FOR YOU
Introduction
Have you ever had that one thought that gets stuck in your mind during your job search of how you can find the right workplace? Well I am here to give you the answer to that question.
The first thing to consider is what can a company offer you that will make you feel like it would be the right fit for you. Some examples of things you want to be thinking about include company culture, company performance, work life balance , fitting in and strict job searching.
Company culture
You should think about if the company aligns with your own values like diversity and inclusion or maybe the past company you worked for was too competitive. The solution to this is looking into the company’s values when doing your research so for example in the scenario I just gave you if a past company had too much of a competitive dynamic then perhaps working for a company that is a bit more team work oriented would be better suited. The way in which you can find out what your values are is by asking yourself questions like what kind of environment do I feel most comfortable in? Or what kind of values do I uphold?
Work /life balance
If a company doesn’t give you that work/life balance and you feel that this may be something that would affect you then that may mean that workplace isn't for you. Another aspect of the work/life balance is Social networking and this is important because an employer having professional relationships with their employees is a good thing to maintain as from the employees prospective if they are having any problems in the workplace it will make them feel more at ease to speak with their employer to let them know. To ensure that you can have a good work/life balance you could ask about it during the interview process to give you that reassurance.
Company Performance
Company performance is to do with the company’s finances but you also want to consider fundamental reasoning. If company performance is something that is important to you when job searching then some things to reflect on may be what are the results you’re looking for? What can you bring to the company to further improve company performance? Some ways you can research into company performance is through their social media by looking at who they are partnered with or how big is their following , news articles is another thing you can look into or reviews on websites such as trust pilot to find out how well the company is doing.
Fitting in
This might just be one of the most important things to consider because if you are not comfortable in the job role or as part of the company then this is no good because this affects how you will fit in with the company culture so if you don’t get on with your colleagues or how the company does things then you may want to keep looking to find that right fit. Fitting in takes time so you might not know immediately but usually you can tell from the little things like do you get on with your colleagues? Do you look forward to do your job role? If the answer to both those questions is yes then fitting in won’t be a problem for you.
Strict job search
Make sure you’re accepting a job role that you are genuinely happy in and with a company that is the right fit. This requires you to trust your gut and be more strategic during your job search it may seem like you are just being too picky but that can sometimes be okay when you’re trying to find the right company for you. To be stricter on your job search some things you may want to consider is thinking about what job role you’re looking for? What kind of hours are suitable for you? Once you have the answers to those 2 questions it should narrow down your job search significantly and any doubt you were feeling before will vanish.
