It's not easy to stand out from the crowd when you're submitting your CV and cover letter. Employers are receiving countless applications every day, so how do you go above and beyond the norm to catch their attention?
Fortunately, there are a few simple things that can help you be more memorable. Below is a list of 4 ways for you to impress any company you want to work for before even applying.
Engage with their company content
Any company would notice people who engage with their content, especially on LinkedIn, so leave a comment, like, share, and say something nice or that adds value to their work. By doing this you're doing 2 things, 1) making the company engage with you, therefore noticing you 2) make a connection/point of introduction. So if you decided to speak with them about potential work, they can recognise you.
Connect and speak to the right people
It's always well and good to know how to do the job, but have you ever thought about people who work at the company? Remember that it's the people who you will be working with that will interview you, so what's the harm in connecting with them and getting to know them? It breaks the ice, you will have an internal connection with the company which already puts you ahead of other applicants and on good terms with the teams, you'll be working with.
Research companies before applying
Knowing what they want helps immensely! And no I don't mean just look at their website, I mean look at projects they have worked on, what is their goal, what are their future plans, who is their founder, their employees, especially the team you're looking to work in. Look at what they work on and how they benefit the business, this will become your way to impress once you connect with them.
Have a social presence
Every company will do its due diligence and research you online and on social media. Whilst some will tell you to private all your social media presence, I can tell you that having an online presence is better than none, but not better than a bad one, but you already know that. It gives a great first impression when they like what they see, you're already ahead of every other applicant. It can really be that easy.
Well, that is it for this blog, hopefully, you make use of this and land a job in the company you want. Tell us below any tips or tricks you have and like to use, we'd love to hear them, I know I will!
