Salary: £80 - £100 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education is seeking a compassionate and proactive 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to join an outstanding school in Colchester. This role is uniquely focused on supporting a child who uses a wheelchair and requires personal care assistance and medical support. You will play a vital role in ensuring the student’s comfort, safety, and educational progress in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
About the Role:
As the 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with the student, providing tailored assistance to help them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This position offers the rewarding opportunity to support the child’s learning needs and personal care requirements.
Responsibilities of a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant:
Provide 1:1 support to a child who uses a wheelchair, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met.
Assist with personal care tasks, including toileting, dressing, and hygiene, while maintaining the child’s dignity and comfort.
Support the implementation of the child’s individual education plan (IEP) and adapt learning materials to suit their needs.
Administer basic medical assistance as required, in line with the school’s policies and training.
Promote independence, confidence, and social skills development.
Monitor and record the child’s progress, offering regular feedback to teachers, parents, and support staff.
Collaborate with teachers to deliver engaging and inclusive lesson plans.
Ensure the child’s safety during classroom activities, transitions, and outings.
Participate in relevant training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills.
Job Requirements:
Experience working as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar role involving personal care and medical support.
Training or knowledge in manual handling and assisting individuals with mobility needs.
An educational background in education, healthcare, psychology, or a related field is advantageous.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build a positive relationship with the child, staff, and parents.
A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting children with SEN.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Up-to-date CV with two relevant references (covering the last two years and the past ten years with no unexplained gaps).
Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
