Our client, a leading player in the energy sector, is currently seeking an 11KV Design Engineer to join their permanent team in Manchester.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analysing plans, bills of quantities and other project documentation to estimate costs
- Undertaking desktop site surveys and liaising with customers to identify their requirements
- Liaising with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to obtain budget quotations and connections offers
- Collaborating with Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs) to obtain quotations for Asset Values
- Researching, sourcing, negotiating and obtaining the best prices and quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
- Producing electrical designs and documentation following relevant regulations and standards, such as ENA Engineering Recommendation G81
- Creating electrical estimates to support the delivery of designs, ensuring customer requirements are met
- Preparing scope of works in a quote template format that clients can easily understand
- Attending design review meetings with clients, DNOs, and IDNOs
- Submitting connection applications and providing ongoing support to customers throughout the connection process
- Generating Design Approval packs for submission to DNOs and IDNOs
- Ensuring designs meet customer requirements and are delivered on time and within budget
- Conducting technical audits and checks on designs produced by other team members
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations and standards and ensuring all designs comply
- Providing technical support to other team members as required
- Handing over Approved Designs to construction
- Managing project design changes and cost variations
- Submitting monthly reports to the Head of ICP on ongoing projects
Principal Accountabilities:
- Driving project business growth and profitability
- Producing accurate and competitive designs and estimates that convert into orders and revenue, maximising profitability
- Ensuring customer satisfaction through excellent project delivery throughout the contractual chain
- Ensuring compliance with internal processes and driving continuous improvement
- Managing suppliers effectively to maximise delivery and profitability
- Embedding lessons learnt and best practices in project processes and culture to increase competitiveness and profitability
- Motivating peers to ensure talent retention, personal development and high levels of engagement
- Being recognised as an active ambassador of the company
Job Requirements:
- Qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Full UK driving licence
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, such as ENA Engineering Recommendation G81
- Experience in electrical design, ideally in a utilities or ICP context
- Proficiency in using relevant design software, such as AutoCAD or MicroStation
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to overcome design challenges
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver on time and within budget
