Accountant - Local Government

Belmont Recruitment are currently looking for an experienced Local Government Accountant to join Cheshire East Council on an initial 3-6 month temporary contract. This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.�



The Role:



Additional senior capacity in the Council's Strategic Finance and Accounting Team. The team looks after the budget setting process, in-year reporting, capital programme co-ordination, closure of accounts and treasury management. �The candidate could be involved in a range of those areas. ��



Key Duties:




  • Prepare and manage budgets, financial statements, and year-end accounts.

  • Monitor and control public sector spending, ensuring value for money.

  • Provide financial analysis and reports to senior management and stakeholders.

  • Ensure compliance with local government financial regulations and accounting standards.

  • Support the development of financial policies and procedures.

  • Assist with external and internal audits.

  • Provide guidance on financial planning, forecasting, and cost-saving strategies.



Requirements:




  • Qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA, ACA)�

  • Experience in public sector finance or local government accounting.

  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and audit processes.

  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.



Location - Crewe/Hybrid working.�
