We are looking for an Advanced Research Engineer to join our Laser Processing Team based in Coventry.
The Advanced Research Engineer (ARE) role is focused on the technical delivery of welding/joining projects and support the development of project related activities across the MTC, working across various technology departments and industrial sectors. The Welding/Joining Team have an excellent track record in delivering value to industry. With a large portfolio of industrially funded projects, the Advanced Research Engineer (ARE) Welding/Joining role will contribute to, and lead projects for, the development of Welding solutions for MTC customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
As an Advanced Research Engineer (ARE) you will:
Be largely independent supply of larger project's technical deliverables, and act as Technical Lead for smaller projects where required; ensuring work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements, within agreed budgets and timescales.
Undertake innovative Engineering research work focused primarily on technology/manufacturing readiness levels (TRL/MRL) 3+, and able to demonstrate industrial project delivery.
Contribute in the identification, technical specification and delivery of new and novel technology capability into the MTC, customers, or industrial members premises.
This role will require involvement in all aspects of the project delivery including but not restricted to:
Concept generation
Detailed design
Ensuring compliance with all relevant standards
Technical support of commissioning
Awareness of project budget and deliverables.
Person Specification
We are looking for a candidate who is/has:
Degree calibre engineer or technologist.
Knowledge and demonstrable experience in any or all the following areas:
Welding/joining;
Robotic/automated welding;
Arc welding;
Welding standards and application of welding standards;
Welding qualification;
Directed Energy Deposition (DED);
Process development.
Ideally working towards professional registration.
Ideally have experience in writing reports and presenting to wider audiences.
Ideally have exposure to the UK manufacturing sector.
