Job Description

Join the Alpine Formula One Team as an Aerodynamicist in our Experimental Testing group. This role is pivotal in ensuring the aerodynamic integrity of our wind tunnel tests, capturing essential data, and maintaining the highest standards in model construction and testing. If you are passionate about aerodynamics and thrive in a collaborative environment, we want to hear from you!

The Role:

The primary role of an Aerodynamicist in the Experimental Testing group is to conduct wind tunnel tests, ensuring that the aerodynamic intent of the test is captured and all necessary data acquired. You will ensure that the correct geometries are tested and that the wind tunnel model is at all times built to the required standards, looking out for anomalous results and investigating where necessary.

This role requires close communication and cooperation with colleagues in other teams in the Aerodynamics department, including development aerodynamicists, model designers, model makers, and wind tunnel engineers, before, during, and after each wind tunnel session. You will run wind tunnel tests, following the latest departmental procedures and ensuring the correct model geometries and test profiles are used, and all required data is acquired. Additionally, you will ensure that the wind tunnel model is built and installed to the required standards and tolerances.

Proactive preparation for tests is essential, ensuring all necessary parts are prepared and available, and all necessary information is provided. You will support and assist with model builds as required, and communicate effectively with model designers, model makers, development aerodynamicists, wind tunnel engineers, and other colleagues to ensure the smooth and timely running of wind tunnel programmes. Analysing wind tunnel output to check for data integrity and identify anomalous results is a key part of the role, as is actively engaging in troubleshooting to resolve problems. You will also contribute to the development of wind tunnel methodology and procedures.

The Person:

The ideal candidate will be educated to at least a master’s level in Aerospace Engineering or an equivalent discipline with significant aerodynamic content. You should have a good knowledge of fluid dynamics and its application to racing cars, along with experience in wind tunnel testing and an understanding of techniques and technologies in use.

Excellent communication, liaison, and team working skills are essential, recognizing that working together with colleagues in other disciplines is crucial to the efficient function of the department. A willingness to play a hands-on role in the wind tunnel and model shop is crucial, as are strong data analysis skills and a proactive mindset.

This role requires regularly working in a shift pattern, including early morning and night-time testing. There may on occasion be a requirement to work at weekends. The role includes hands-on work on wind tunnel models, both in the wind tunnel and the model shop.

If you are ready to take on this exciting challenge and contribute to the success of the Alpine Formula One Team, apply now!
