Role
The AIT Mechanical Operations Engineer will be a key member of the Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) department. This role focuses on performing mechanical operations on spacecraft, including equipment installation, grounding, parts bonding, and handling. The engineer will also support the installation of Multi-Layer Insulation (MLI) and bronze mesh, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and safety standards.
Responsibilities
Perform mechanical operations on spacecraft, including equipment preparation, installation, grounding, parts bonding, and handling.
Install and remove MLI and bronze mesh, including templating and repairs as necessary.
Prepare and complete required procedures and documentation related to mechanical operations.
Conduct operational preparation work and provide technical support for mechanical activities.
Identify and report any anomalies or deviations encountered during operations, ensuring proper documentation and communication.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful integration and testing of spacecraft components.
Required Experience
Previous experience in mechanical operations within the aerospace industry, particularly in spacecraft assembly and integration.
Experience with operational preparation and technical support in AIT environments.
Familiarity with Defence and Space work order systems (e.g., Apriso, PREX) is a plus.
Mandatory certifications: Electrical authorization, CACES (aerial bucket operation), and "chargeur connu" (authorization for packing equipment).
Relevant competencies in mechanical handling, bonding, MLI installation, and structural assembly as outlined in the mandatory competencies section.
Required Skills
Proficient in mechanical assembly techniques and spacecraft integration processes.
Strong understanding of grounding and bonding procedures for aerospace applications.
Ability to work at heights and operate aerial lifting equipment (CACES certification).
Familiarity with safety regulations and electrical authorization requirements.
Effective communication skills for reporting and documentation purposes.
Competence in various mechanical operations, including installation of RF tests, thermocouples, accelerometers, and radiation shields.
Required Education
Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
