We have a fantastic opportunity available for an Animal Technician! We are searching for a candidate who is passionate about carrying out important animal husbandry tasks and maintaining top-notch welfare standards in a cutting-edge research environment.



Please note that due to the client location and absence of public transport links, candidates are required to have their own transport.



Basic Requirements:




  • Level 2 Diploma in Animal Management.

  • Experience in routine manual work that requires attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in routine animal husbandry and a strong commitment to animal welfare.

  • Ability to obtain or possession of a Home Office personal license.

  • Demonstrates enthusiasm, dedication, and accountability in their work.

  • Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work with interruptions while maintaining confidentiality.

  • Proficient in using software such as Excel, Word, bespoke Database, or similar production software.

  • Possession of a valid driving license and access to personal transportation is necessary.



Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Perform daily responsibilities in animal care, such as feeding, watering, cleaning, handling, and observing animals, according to instructions from the team leader.

  • Monitor and report on the environmental conditions of the animal units, including temperature and the security and suitability of housing.

  • Adhere to protocols for entering and exiting animal units safely to maintain site security and biosecurity standards.

  • Clean and maintain animal rooms, related areas, and equipment following specified procedures.

  • Carry out necessary procedures as instructed.

  • Maintain accurate records, including day books, production data reports, and stock availability records.

  • Report any concerns or problems related to animal welfare or the unit environment to the team leader.

  • Receive and dispatch goods in and out of the animal facility, using proper sterilization procedures to uphold the animal barrier status.

  • Handle production tasks such as birthing, weaning, sexing, counting, and weighing animals.

  • Follow Home Office guidelines when re-housing and grouping animals, as directed by the team leader.

  • Assist in training new staff on cleaning, feeding, watering, animal handling, and pen labelling.

  • Undertake additional tasks within the limits of knowledge, skills, and experience, as assigned by the team leader or other members of the management team.
