Team: Assessment and Safeguarding Team

Role : Full Time

Darlington Borough Council's Assessment and Safeguarding Team is seeking a dedicated and passionate Children's Social Worker to join our team. We are committed to protecting children from harm and providing high-quality support to families facing challenges.

About the Role and Responsibilities:


  • Protecting Vulnerable Children: Conduct thorough assessments of children and families to identify their needs and risks. Develop and implement individualised care plans, ensuring the safety and well-being of children in vulnerable situations.
  • Building Trust and Support: Engage with families, building rapport, and working collaboratively to promote positive change.
  • Delivering Effective Interventions: Work closely with families, children, and other agencies to provide timely and effective support.
  • Advocating for Children: Represent the needs of children and families, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are protected.
  • Leading Safeguarding Practices: Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Multi-Agency Collaboration: Participate in multi-agency meetings and working groups to ensure coordinated support for children and families.
  • Providing Expertise and Guidance: Offer information, advice, and support to other professionals on safeguarding issues.
  • Maintaining Documentation and Standards: Maintain accurate records and documentation, adhering to relevant legislation and guidelines.
  • Contributing to Team Development: Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of team services to ensure high-quality support for children and families.

Key Requirements:


  • Qualified Social Worker (DipSW, CQSW, BA Hons in Social Work, or equivalent).
  • Social Care England registration.
  • Updated DBS check.
  • Experience working within a Children's Social Care service, particularly in a safeguarding or assessment role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing demands.
  • Commitment to child-centered practice and a commitment to improving the lives of children and families.
