Asset Manager / Building Surveyor | Central/East London | Up to £62,000 | Hybrid
The Civils & Infrastructure Team at Ford & Stanley are partnered with an awarding winning train operator looking to source a Building Surveying / Asset Management specialist for their newly created Asset Engineer (Buildings)  position.

Our candidate will be based out of their Fenchurch Street HQ and will be responsible for the management of the business building related assets, including stations, offices, depots, and lineside buildings.

This role will be split between 2-3 days in the office, and a day out on site, although there is some flexibility, allowing for some home-based working. Our candidates will be expected to be able to manage their own workload and prioritise tasks as they see fit.

The Opportunity

As an Asset Engineer, no 2 days will be the same. You will have the opportunity to travel the region, covering a large and varied portfolio of Buildings, and interacting with a wide variety of people.

There are also a significant number of projects taking place on the network over the next 10 years, equating to a spend of at least £180m, many of which you will have some form of interaction with.  

You will be embedded in a very supportive team, and a business unit with a shared a vision and goal – to provide a high level of service for the thousands of passengers that travel the network every year. Your actions will be able to provide real, measurable benefits to local communities, including your own. Once you are fully embedded into the role, you will be able to work with a high level of autonomy, contributing to the improvement of processes and procedures within the business unit.

Location, Salary & Benefits


  • Leeds, with regular travel across the network. Hybrid working (1 day work from home, may increase to 2 in the future).
  • Salary: up to £62,000 per annum.

Agreed Criteria for candidates to secure interview


  • Degree level qualified in Building Surveying, Civil Engineering, or any other relevant qualification
  • Experience in a relevant role, and strong technical knowledge of buildings/buildings fabric.
  • Previous experience managing high volumes of building condition surveys. Candidates from a relevant/transferable sector, e.g., Local Authority, Estates Management, Utilities, Airports, Ports, Logistics, or Building Services Contracting environment would be ideal.
  • Our candidates must be a commutable distance from Fenchurch HQ, and happy with extensive travel, as they will be covering a large geographical area, and have a large number of assets in their portfolio.
  • Our candidates must have a high level of resilience and excellent communication skills, as they will be acting as principal point of contact for key stakeholders, such as the train operating companies/station managers.`
