Assistant Accountant/Bookkeeper



I am currently recruiting on behalf of my prestigious client, based in Stockport, SK1, for an experienced Assistant Accountant/Bookkeeper to join on a full-time, permanent basis.

The successful candidate will need proven Assistant Accounting experience with working knowledge of Xero and/or Sage and be able to work in a fast-paced, SME business.

About the role:




  • Contribute and assist the Finance Manager in delivering monthly management accounts, periodic forecasting and budgeting

  • Monitoring debtor and creditor ledgers to ensure accuracy of input

  • Journal preparation, balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis

  • Some Purchase ledger & Sales ledger invoice processing work and bank allocations

  • Working closely with colleagues both inside and outside of finance

  • Getting involved in ad-hoc finance projects

  • Daily upload into Invoice finance company's online system and draw down available funds

  • Own certain month end processes by: ensuring banks are reconciled, PLEO is reconciled, STRIPE is reconciled and efficient processing of invoices and credit notes to given deadline

  • Monitor and organise Accounts inbox and investigate any queries and resolve them in a timely manner

  • Manage Fixed Asset register and post monthly depreciation journal



Hours and Pay:




  • Monday to Friday

  • Hybrid/Remote - 3-days home working per week

  • Salary up to £35,000 - dependent on experience

  • Permanent

  • 33 days of annual leave, including 8 bank holidays plus Birthday Day Off

About you:




  • Proven Bookkeeping/Accounting experience within an accounting practice environment is essential

  • Proficiency in accounting software, particularly Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage

  • Accounts payable knowledge

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to meet deadlines and targets

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
