Assistant Chef - Independent School - North London
Hours: 7:00 am - 2:00 pm
Salary: �25,000 - �30,000
Key Responsibilities:
- Menu Planning:
- Collaborate with the Nutritionist to plan termly menus that are nutritionally balanced, varied, and reflective of the school's diverse cultural community.
- Provide attractive, daily meals in sufficient quantities, ensuring second helpings are available for children who want more.
- Research new menu items from magazines, books, and the internet.
- Stock Control and Ordering:
- Maintain stock control, ensuring adequate supplies and the proper use of packaged and tinned produce.
- Order dairy produce daily, vegetables twice weekly, and general groceries monthly (except when changing menus).
- Order plates, cutlery, napkins, paper bags, etc., as necessary.
- Kitchen Hygiene and Safety:
- Maintain high hygiene standards in the kitchen, ensuring proper food storage, cleanliness of utensils and dishes, and regular surface cleaning.
- Wear a full chef's uniform, keep hair tied up or covered, wash hands before food preparation, and wear gloves when necessary.
- Be prepared for Public Health Inspections at any time.
- Check fridge, freezer, and water temperatures twice daily and maintain accurate records.
- Perform daily probe temperature checks on dairy produce and hot foods, ensuring food safety standards.
- Calibrate temperature probes monthly.
- Additional Duties:
- Manage laundry of uniforms and kitchen linens.
- Report kitchen equipment, hygiene, or maintenance concerns to the Headteacher immediately.
- Liaise with the Health & Safety Coordinator and Medical Carer to ensure best practices and allergy precautions.
- Gather regular feedback on the menu and make necessary adjustments.
- Ensure sufficient hot water supply and well-stocked hand washing facilities.
- Assist when other chefs are unavailable and prepare meals for school trips.
- Check the functionality of all kitchen equipment daily.
