Assistant Purchasing Manager
We are recruiting for a Assistant Purchasing Manager on a permanent basis for our Banbury based client. Your role will be to fully support the Purchasing Manager and Division in its purchasing activities, meeting company goals for cost, quality, innovation and delivery.
As an Assistant Purchasing Manger you will need to have/be:
- CIPS membership or the appropriate business qualification. (desirable)
- At least 5 years in engineering / manufacturing purchasing environment, with experience and understanding of APQP, PPAP, TS-16949, cost tracking and quotation analysis.
- Cost improvement techniques and achievement.
- Positive contributor to new product launches.
- Computer literate. In particular Excel.
- Highly developed in communication and influencing skills.
- Negotiation skills.
- Highly numerate.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Full UK driving license and passport plus flexibility to travel when required

Role of Assistant Purchasing Manager:
- Assist Purchasing Manager to guide Purchasing Team and meet company / project objectives
- Take a leading role in New Model Project Management (NPI), costs, timing.
- Undertake supplier selection to meet business and project requirements as requested.
- Identify business goals for cost improvement and continually strive to achieve or better that goal in a sustainable and measurable fashion.
- Manage selected customer nominated suppliers.
- Set and communicate supplier performance targets and significant characteristics.
- Establish production supply agreements to be best in class in commercial terms.
- Host regular NPI review summaries with purchasing team, become link to other depts
- Develop ideas for the improvement in the effectiveness of the Purchasing Team (strategy)
- Guide / mentor other purchasing members as required, assist in strategy creation
- Develop and maintain commodity strategies for given commodities relevant to business goals.
- Fully support the engineering change management of supplied components and materials.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement processes - supplier quality, cost, innovation, delivery and management.
- Where necessary take on the closure of quality issues with suppliers, supporting the relevant quality engineer.
- Maintenance of Purchasing database, suppliers, spends and budgeting.
- Take a leading role in coordinating the activities of stakeholders to meet business improvement objectives.
- Take a leading role in the management and development of SAP.
