Are you ready to step up in your ecology career and shape a growing service for a forward-thinking sustainability business in South Wales? How about an opportunity with profit-sharing for the work you bring in and deliver, and a company profit share after 2 years?

As the new Associate Ecologist, you'll lead and develop the Ecology function, handling a variety of projects across different sectors. Your work will cover a wide range of ecology services - from Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA) to projects in public, commercial, residential, transport, and energy sectors. You'll be involved in reporting, designing ecological mitigation plans, and coordinating with stakeholders.

What's on offer?

  • 20% profit share on your cost center in the first two years
  • Promotion to Director after two years, including an 8% share of company profits
  • Flexible work setup including flexi hours and homeworking
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Matched pension contributions
  • Clearly defined career development opportunities
  • The chance to help shape a service delivery line including recruiting and developing a team

Your key responsibilities

  • Be the main contact for Ecology within the team, driving client and partner relationships
  • Plan and manage ecological surveys, producing top-notch reports including habitat and species surveys
  • Deliver technical expertise on complex projects, on time and on budget
  • Support business growth through proposals, client management, and fee development
  • Manage and mentor an ecology team within a multi-disciplinary consultancy
  • Develop proposals to boost the profitability of our Ecology services
  • Help to build out and develop the Ecology function for the organisation

About you

  • Relevant BSc (an MSc in a related field is a bonus but not required)
  • Skilled in producing clear, high-quality deliverables
  • Highly organized, deadline-oriented, with strong knowledge of UK ecology legislation
  • Understanding of the UK planning system and how ecology fits into it
  • Experience in creating tailored proposals and managing project profitability
  • Full, clean UK driving license
  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CEnv or CEcol is a plus)
  • Protected species licences (particularly for bats, badgers, or other key species) are an advantage
