Location: City Academy, 23 Langley Walk, Ladywood, Birmingham, West Midlands, B15 2EF
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Pay Rate: £11.44 per hour
Contract Type: Ongoing

Overview:

City Academy is seeking a dedicated and experienced Attendance Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working in a high school setting, using SIMS and Classcharts to manage and monitor student attendance effectively. You will play a key role in promoting a culture of punctuality and regular attendance, ensuring that all students have access to uninterrupted learning.

Key Responsibilities:

1.

Attendance Monitoring & Reporting:

* Use SIMS and Classcharts to record, track and analyse daily student attendance and punctuality.

* Generate attendance reports for senior leadership and external bodies as required.

* Identify and investigate patterns of absenteeism, liaising with staff and parents to ensure effective interventions.

2.

Student and Parent Communication:

* Contact parents/carers to follow up on unexplained or prolonged absences.

* Work closely with parents, guardians, and external agencies to address and resolve attendance issues.

3.

Compliance and Record-Keeping:

* Ensure accurate records of student attendance are maintained, in line with school policies and legal requirements.

* Provide regular updates to senior staff on attendance trends, including persistent absenteeism and punctuality concerns.

4.

Supporting the Pastoral Team:

* Work collaboratively with the pastoral team, form tutors, and other staff to support students with attendance challenges.

* Organise and attend meetings with parents and external agencies regarding attendance and safeguarding concerns.

5.

Intervention & Support:

* Assist in the development of attendance improvement strategies, including rewards for good attendance and punctuality.

* Implement targeted interventions for students who are consistently absent or late.

Administration & Data Management:

* Maintain up-to-date records in SIMS and Classcharts, ensuring all data is accurate and ready for inspection.

* Assist with administrative tasks such as sending letters home, making phone calls, and scheduling meetings related to attendance.

Person Specification:

Essential:

* Previous experience working as an Attendance Officer in a high school setting.

* Proficient in using SIMS (School Information Management System) and Classcharts.

* Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, parents, and external agencies.

* Highly organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

* A proactive and solution-focused approach to addressing attendance issues.

* A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.

Desirable:

* Experience working in a school in the West Midlands or Birmingham area.

* Familiarity with school attendance policies and relevant legal requirements.

* Knowledge of intervention programmes designed to improve student attendance
