Main Purpose of the Role To lead and oversee the end-to-end bid process, acting as a key touch point forl bids for all stakeholders. To deliver strategic bids to the customer base, through the management and development of high quality and compelling proposals to meet business targets for growth and profitability.
Management Of People & Advisory Management of one or more direct reports. The role requires a high level of collaborative working and stakeholder management to achieve set deadlines. Requirement to influence key internal stakeholders within the immediate peer group, as well as cross- functionally throughout the wider business to deliver the requirements of the role. Coaching of Business Development/Sales/Account/Product Management teams and other business teams as appropriate in the effective use of the bid process to ensure compliance.
Spread Of Skills & Analysis Required The nature of the role is varied. Excellent customer and market knowledge is required to lead, own and support the development of proposals.
An excellent knowledge of general bidding processes and procedures is required for the role, as well as a good basic knowledge of commercial terms and conditions. Excellent bid writing skills are required for the role. A demonstrable collaborative approach to stakeholder management.
The ability to work because of self-initiative is essential, as work is generally proactive. There is a requirement to use analytical skills and judgement to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
Pressure & Working Environment Fluctuating pressure due to peaks and troughs in workload, with periods of high pressure due to deadlines and range/number of bids in the process.
Directly responsible for meeting critical deadlines and exacting customer requirements to ensure business growth as well as retaining existing customers through contract renewals. Work requires considerable concentration and a high degree of attention to detail in dealing with and responding to complex bid requirements. A consistently high level of quality of work is required to ensure the best chance of securing new business.
The role may involve some travel and out of hours working may occasionally be required.
Qualifications & Education Mathematics and English to GCSE standard or equivalent
Formal Professional Qualification such as APMP, Project Management qualification
Experience & Proven Ability Required
Essential CriteriaExperience of managing bids/proposals and projects and delivering to exacting requirements and deadlines.
Experience of responding successfully to formal tender exercises.
Excellent bid writing skills.
Demonstrable experience of working at all levels of an organisation, showing assertiveness and influence.
Experience of managing multiple internal and/or external stakeholders.
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Self-motivated and able to work without strong guidance in line with Company procedures, delegated authority levels.
Line management experience.
