Job Title: Business Management Support Officer
Pay Rate: �15.66 per hour (LTD)
Location: Bedford
Contract: 3-Month Temporary, Full-Time (9 AM - 5 PM)
Job Purpose: We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Business Management Support Officer to provide comprehensive administrative and personal support to the Senior Management Team. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth running of office operations, support corporate initiatives, and contribute to an efficient and effective service delivery.
Key Responsibilities: Corporate Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to the Council's policies, including Health & Safety, Data Protection, Equal Opportunities, and Risk Management.
  • Collaborate with other directorates on corporate and community projects.
  • Support the implementation of the Bedford Borough 2020 Digital Operating Model.
Operational Responsibilities:
  • Provide secretarial and administrative support to the Senior Management Team.
  • Maintain professional office administration systems.
  • Manage schedules, events, and report deadlines.
  • Organise meetings, prepare agendas, and take minutes.
  • Maintain effective data management systems (paper and electronic).
  • Handle correspondence, compose routine replies, and manage incoming mail.
  • Act as the first point of contact for complaints, councillor enquiries, and Freedom of Information requests.
  • Coordinate telephone handling and visitor reception.
  • Provide information, advice, and guidance to team members on office systems.
Resource Management Responsibilities:
  • Promote a positive and effective team environment.
  • Support the Senior Management Team in their duties.
  • Ensure compliance with Council policies, legal regulations, and service-level agreements.
  • Represent the Council at meetings and events when required.
Candidate Requirements: Essential:
  • Proven experience in an office environment with knowledge of administrative systems.
  • Strong secretarial and administrative support skills.
  • Excellent organisational ability and the capacity to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and handle sensitive information confidentially.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively at all levels.
  • Good numeracy and IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Customer-focused approach with a commitment to equality and diversity.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing workloads and priorities.
