Buyer - Rail Services

Buyer (Rail Services) 12 Month Fixed Term contract - Hybrid role 1-2 Days in Manchester site

A leading operator in the Rail market is currently recruiting for a Buyer to work in their procurement team based out of Manchester.

As the Buyer you will support the maintenance depots with sourcing requirements for direct materials and services in line with procurement policies and procedures.

You will be responsible for identifying opportunities to ensure key areas of spend are within the target of improving cost, delivery performance, quality and reliability.

As direct services Buyer you will

• Lead and facilitate RFQ and RFP planning and specification or requirements gathering to support any tender activity


• Lead and facilitate any negotiations with suppliers including any contractual terms and conditions to ensure standards (e.g. Rail Safety Standards as well as H&S) as well as any relevant legal or industry wide standards are captured.


• Collaborate with stakeholders effectively offering sourcing expertise and delivering operational effectiveness


• Lead supplier relationship management activities and support continuous improvement of the Procurement Policies as well as methods and tools.


• Deliver agreed cost savings and value add targets for the business

You will have;

• Relevant procurement qualification/certification such as MCIPS or similar


• Previous experience sourcing within a rail maintenance industry is essential


• Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills


• Proven ability to facilitate strategic supplier relationships


• Excellent PC skills and proficiency in MS Office applications

The role will be based out of Manchester and its a Hybrid role so 1-2 days in the office. There will be some requirement to other sites in the North/Midlands at times. They are offering salary circa �45,000- �50,000 plus benefits. The role is offered at an initial 12 month fixed term contract but is likely to be extended.
