Job Title: Caretaker/Cleaner Directorate: Initially, Community & Wellbeing, however, may be required to work in any directorate across the Council Department: Initially, Leisure, however, may be required to work in any department across the Council Location: Various Locations Reports to: Community Centres & Halls Supervisors Salary: SCP 4 Car User Status: Casual PURPOSE AND FUNCTION OF THE POST: The person appointed will be responsible to the Community Centres & Halls Supervisors for a wide range of duties primarily in connection with the Community Centres and Halls throughout the Borough of Ards and North Down. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Caretaker will be a responsible keyholder for any building allocated for work and will oversee activities taking place and maintain centres in a safe and clean condition. Use various items of equipment to ensure the cleanliness of the building and maintain stocks of cleaning materials. Cleaning of the facilities to a high standard at all times. Responsible for the accurate and timely keeping of all records which are pertinent to the buildings, including all health & safety checks. Setting up and dismantling of all equipment inside and out. Reporting to Supervisors any problems/issues in a timely manner. Delivery of customer service to a high quality at all times including showing the facilities to prospective users and directing them to the Leisure Services office to discuss any further requirements. Performing simple maintenance tasks. Ensuring that the facilities are used in a safe manner and by the correct groups and reporting any irregularities. Ensuring the health and Safety standards are maintained, as laid down in the Health and Safety at Work (NI) order 1978 and other relevant legislation. Be prepared to work at various Council community centres/halls and any other Council facility as required. Implementing and complying with the declared policies and procedures of the Council. To comply with and promote equality, health and safety in accordance with Council Policies and legal requirements. To undertake any other appropriate duties as may be allocated from time to time in accordance with the general nature of the post. Note: The postholder will be required to work evenings and weekends as part of normal working hours as required depending on the pattern of bookings. PERSON SPECIFICATION The person specification provides information on the qualifications, experience, knowledge, and skills required to carry out the duties of the post. The essential criteria will be used for shortlisting and as part of the selection process. Experience Essential: Previous cleaning experience Previous experience in record keeping Desirable: Experience in caretaking and ability to use heavy cleaning equipment Previous experience in basic maintenance duties Experience in customer service delivery Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Essential: Good interpersonal skills Good customer focus skills Ability to work without supervision Understanding and appreciation of the needs of the public Other Requirements Essential: Must be prepared to work evenings and weekends Must be prepared to work across all Council community centres/halls and any other Council building as required To be flexible Will be required to travel throughout the Borough and therefore must have access to a suitable form of transport which will enable the post holder to meet the requirements of the post The selection panel reserves the right to enhance the shortlisting criteria to facilitate the process when necessary.
