Job Title: Catering Assistant

This is a TEMP position 1-2 days a week, this is a perfect position for Students

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Catering Assistant to join our supermarket cafe/in-store catering team. The ideal candidate will provide excellent customer service while supporting daily cafe operations. This role involves food preparation, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring a pleasant customer experience. Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation: Assist with the preparation of food items, such as sandwiches, salads, baked goods, and hot meals according to the menu and company guidelines.

Customer Service: Provide friendly and efficient service to all customers, taking orders, serving food, and handling queries in a polite and professional manner.

Cash Handling: Operate the till and handle cash/card payments accurately and responsibly.

Stock Management: Assist with stock checks and restocking supplies, ensuring adequate levels of ingredients and packaging are maintained.

Health & Safety: Follow all health and safety regulations, ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the work area, including food handling, equipment, and customer spaces.

Cleaning & Maintenance: Regularly clean workstations, equipment, tables, and the cafe area. Adhere to cleaning schedules and maintain hygiene standards as per company policies.

Collaboration: Work effectively with other team members and communicate with supervisors to ensure smooth daily operations.

Compliance: Ensure compliance with all food hygiene, health, and safety policies, and report any issues to the Catering Supervisor or Store Manager.

Key Skills & Experience:

Customer Service: Previous experience in a customer-facing role, ideally within the food or retail industry, is preferred.

Teamwork: Ability to work well within a team and assist colleagues where needed.

Food Safety: Basic food hygiene knowledge or willingness to undertake training (certification such as Level 1 Food Safety would be an advantage).

Communication: Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage positively with customers and team members.

Organisational Skills: Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and maintain attention to detail.

Numeracy: Basic maths skills for cash handling and stock counting.

Qualifications:

Experience: Prior experience in catering, food service, or retail is desirable but not essential.

Training: Full training provided on food safety, customer service, and store procedures.

Certifications: Food hygiene certification is advantageous but not required (training will be provided).
