Full-Time Teaching Assistant with Catering experience needed in York!

Are you passionate about education and catering? Do you have experience in both supporting students and working in a kitchen environment? GSL Education is looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant with Catering experience to join a specialist school in York, starting as soon as possible.

About the Role as a Catering Teaching Assistant:

This unique opportunity involves working as a Teaching Assistant within the school’s Catering and Hospitality department, supporting students in their learning while also assisting with food preparation, serving lunches, and maintaining a clean and organised kitchen environment. You will work closely with the cook and teaching staff to help deliver practical catering lessons while ensuring the smooth running of the school’s meal service.

Key Responsibilities as a Catering Teaching Assistant:

• Support students in Catering and Hospitality lessons, helping them develop practical cooking skills.
• Assist the cook with food preparation, serving meals, and maintaining hygiene standards.
• Ensure the kitchen and dining areas are clean and organised before and after mealtimes.
• Provide classroom support, helping students with learning activities and practical tasks.
• Encourage independence and confidence in students by promoting a hands-on approach to learning.
• Uphold food safety and hygiene regulations in accordance with school policies.

About the School:

This specialist education setting provides tailored support for students aged 5 to 16 who may face challenges in mainstream education due to SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs or other additional learning requirements. The school promotes practical, skills-based learning to prepare students for future careers and independent living. The Catering and Hospitality department is a key part of the school’s curriculum, giving students the opportunity to gain valuable life skills in a supportive and structured environment.

Catering Teaching Assistant Requirements:

• Previous Teaching Assistant experience or experience working with young people is desirable.
• Catering experience (e.g., food preparation, serving, or working in a kitchen environment).
• Knowledge of food hygiene and safety regulations.
• A patient, supportive, and proactive approach to working with students.
• An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
