About Corserv
Corserv Solutions Ltd is a unique organisation that delivers a wide range of services with one aim – to improve the lives of people in our wonderful county of Cornwall. Everything we do is to make things easier and better for our communities – whether that is improving infrastructure, maintaining homes and buildings, providing care, or building careers. We collaborate and innovate to give back to our communities and provide a return to Cornwall Council for essential public services.
We are one hundred percent owned by Cornwall Council, our Shareholder. We reflect that public sector ethos through our mission of “Working together to improve the lives of people in Cornwall.” However, we are a set of commercial businesses that aim to produce profit that can be reinvested to deliver public services within Cornwall. This is an especially important purpose given the challenges within Local Government Finance.
Our vision to improve Cornish lives shapes our work ethic and practices. It is the reason we exist and how we ultimately measure our success. Everything we do helps shape Cornwall and its economic growth. We aim to extend our reach by working on projects or delivering services in Devon, Dorset, Somerset, and beyond.
Our new Chair will provide strategic leadership to the Corserv Board and their subsidiaries, ensuring effectiveness through good governance. The Chair’s primary role is to ensure the Board is effective in setting the direction and strategy, bringing a clear commercial focus to its delivery.
About you
Using your previous commercial experience, you will bring an independent judgement to bear on issues of company development, finances, strategy, performance, and resources, supporting and challenging the Company’s Executive to deliver upon the Business Plan. You will be expected to effectively manage and chair the affairs of the board, form key relationships with senior council officers, and provide oversight and assurance to the Shareholder, Cornwall Council.
In collaboration with other Non-Executive Directors, you will provide strategic leadership to the organisation as a whole, working with and guiding the CEO and Divisional Directors to ensure delivery of Corserv’s vision, values, and strategy. You will ensure that the board operate best practice governance arrangements, promoting a positive and open culture in an efficient and effective way, driving innovation and the commercial growth of the business.
We are seeking an exceptional leader with proven commercial experience and an understanding of the local authority trading company space in which Corserv operates. You will have in-depth experience in strategic leadership, governance, and driving performance. If you are passionate about creating positive change and delivering tangible benefits to a community, we want to hear from you.
