The Chief of Staff acts as a trusted adviser to the Chief Executive, enabling successful delivery of the CEOs strategy and plan. They work with a broad range of internal stakeholders (primarily GEC and Board members) and external stakeholders where required. Activities within the scope of this role are: CEO Executive Office Specials projects (as directed by the CEO) Key accountabilities for Integration Leader level roles: Accountable for influencing and translating strategy into implementation plans; integrating the strategic with the operational. Addresses competing requirements to deliver balanced results, resolving significant/priority conflicts. Manages problems with broad reaching ramifications, managing different parts of complex systems and linking to the broader picture. Drives incremental and transformational change in response to market and customer needs; typically leads the delivery of major programmes of work. Allocates a team or group of resources optimally to deliver on strategy, prioritising conflicting demands and activities. Network with peers across the matrix organisation. Engages and monitors external stakeholders, often to find a range of solutions to address problems. Key accountabilities for this role: To work with the Chief Executive and the wider executive team and formulate objectives and to implement plans to optimise the growth and performance of M&G plc. To contribute to the delivery of the business plan for M&G plc as part of the broader matrix management structure. To increase the operational ability of M&G plc and assist the GEC to identify opportunities to optimise work across the different functions and business lines. To participate in the strategic planning of the Chief Executive, challenging and shaping planning activity and then assisting in translating this to tangible goals for the M&G plc business. To assist the Chief Executive with strategic priorities and identify, prioritise and monitor actions related to the execution and implementation of the business strategy by the wider M&G plc ExCom. To provide appropriate executive level operational support to the Chief Executive and the wider GEC. To act as a trusted advisor and strategic consultant for the Chief Executive, working across the GEC and the plc Board to facilitate delivery and decision making. To monitor the information flow between the CEOs office and all critical internal and external stakeholders, ensuring the CEOs involvement at the appropriate time. To lead special projects work as directed by the Chief Executive. To represent the Group externally to shareholders, regulators and other external stakeholders as required and to protect the corporate reputation of the M&G plc and its subsidiaries. To work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customers outcomes and a reduction in M&G plc's operational risk. Key knowledge, skills and experience: An awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which M&G plc operates. Excellent understanding of how the business operates, its business requirements and commercial objectives. An ability to contribute to the development of the strategic direction, priorities and plans of M&G plc, constructively engaging with and challenging peers. An ability to assess the effectiveness of the arrangements to deliver effective governance, oversight and controls across the executive office function and, if necessary, to direct changes in these areas. An awareness and understanding of the evolving regulatory framework in which M&G plc operates. An ability to interpret M&G plc customer outcomes and financial information, to identify key issues based on this information and to put in place appropriate controls and measures to respond to business and regulatory requirements. Experience of working at Board level in large organisations; rounded strategic business background with diverse experience working across large, complex businesses.
