A leading global US pharmaceutical research organisation, is seeking an exceptional individual to join their executive team as Chief Research & Operations Officer (CROO) to oversees not only the operational aspects of the organisation but also plays a crucial role in research strategy and securing funding for scientific initiatives. This prestigious institution, with offices in Cambridge and London have significant operations worldwide, is at the forefront of science and research.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in R&D environments, preferably with exposure to the charitable sector and funding. This is crucial as you will be leading a key division that bridges the organisation's scientific research with its philanthropic initiatives.
Key responsibilities:
Drive operational excellence across R&D functional divisions to accelerate scientific breakthroughs
Provide strategic support to the Chief Scientific Officer and liaise with the Scientific Advisory Board
Spearhead the R&D transformation programme, aligning it with charitable objectives
Chair the R&D Operations Committee and participate in cross-functional strategic boards
Ensure efficient, integrated operational delivery across all R&D support functions
Implement ambitious equity, diversity, and inclusion goals within the R&D division
Contribute to strategic decision-making as a member of the R&D Executive Committee
Oversee risk management and compliance processes in research operations
Optimize resource allocation for maximum research impact and charitable benefit
Chief Research & Operations Officer (CROO) Candidate profile:
Proven track record of executive leadership in a research focused envirornement
Strong understanding of the intersection between scientific research and philanthropic sector
Excellent strategic thinking and operational execution skills in R&D contexts
Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale R&D organisational transformation
Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in scientific fields
Experience in managing the unique challenges of charitable research funding is highly desirable
This position offers a highly competitive compensation package circa £400k pa, commensurate with the seniority and responsibilities of the role. The position will be based at the organisation's R&D headquarters, with a hybrid working model.
