We are seeking a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the development team, drive technical strategy, and ensure the stable live operation of Avid's Games mobile DCTG games. The CTO will play a critical role in the company's strategic direction and future growth. The ideal candidate will have some background in DevOps (and/or backend development) and mobile games experience. PLEASE NOTE WE ARE LOOKING FOR GAMES INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE to apply , without this you will be rejected.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership: As well as developing the company’s technology strategy, you will be in constant collaboration with the rest of the senior management team. The ability to work together and communicate in an open, clear and consistent manner is critical.Team Leadership: You will be leading and mentoring a combined backend and Unity development team with varying levels of experience. You will know how to keep them motivated and working to expand their own abilities.Data Stewardship: You will be responsible for ensuring that all teams have access to all the data they need.Willingness to get ‘hands-on’: While the ability to delegate and support development is crucial, as we are a relatively small publisher you will sometimes need to get directly involved with development yourself.Technical Expertise: You will use your understanding of technical architecture, coding standards and best practices for the benefit of the whole team.Innovation: Monitor emerging technologies and balance enthusiasm with realistic expectations of their applicability. When the time is right, you will know how to bring other team members on board through influence, not authority.Maintaining the Live Services: You will be responsible for ensuring systems are monitored. Downtime is costly to the business, so - along with the rest of the SMT - you will be prepared to deal with issues ‘out of hours’ should they arise.Budget Management: Manage the technology budget and ensure cost-effective solutions.Security: Ensure appropriate security protocols and regulatory compliance remain in situ.Vendor Management: Oversee relationships with third-party vendors and technology partners.Desired Skills5 years min Games Industry experienceKnowledge of backend systems ( ideally have worked with MariaDB / Galera Cluster / Docker previously)Working knowledge of third party services often used in mobile games, such as: Firebase, CleverTap/LeanPlum, Photon, Unity, Appsflyer - and of course Apple and Google.Coding past exp in two or more of Java, PHP, JS (at least ES6), BashExperienced at engineering and architecting GCP Services or other cloud infrastructure servicesExcellent O/S knowledge in Linux; Ubuntu specifically but not requiredExperience with Jenkins or other CI/CD pipeline technologyExperienced with Git for version controlRequired QualificationsExperience: 10+ years of experience in games technology roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership position.Technical Skills: As noted above but we can flex so please do enquireCommunication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
