An Engineer whose primary role will provide engineering expertise and leadership to project teams concerned with design and construction of infrastructure within the RES property portfolio, wider our clients  sites and on customer owned/ operated sites eg MoD. This will be a combination of New Build and refurbishment of existing facilities.
This will involve leading and working in a design team comprising engineers in other design disciplines to produce multi-disciplinary designs that fulfil the requirements of the customer and end user, and are safe and efficient to operate, maintain and dispose of.
The role involves management and oversight of external design consultants/ specialists as appropriate, inspection of construction works and undertaking surveys of existing infrastructure, writing of technical reports/ papers and presenting findings to others.
Core Duties
The role holder will:
? Undertake engineering feasibility assessments, preliminary designs and reports within own sphere of responsibility to professional standards of quality to meet target dates for delivery
? Plan and undertake condition surveys, and write technical reports
? Prepare concept designs and options studies that will form the basis of further development work
? Oversee and manage the work of sub-contractors assigned to carry out design
? Undertake peer reviews where required
? Inspect and report on construction site matters
? Contribute to team planning, risk management, quality and SHE to support the effective functioning of the Project Team Work with the project management and commercial functions on various projects to provide mechanical input and support to projects as required.
? Subject matter expert in the team for own discipline.
? Participate in design reviews as required.
- The role holder is responsible for taking reasonable care of their own health and safety ensuring high standards for safety, health and environment (SHE) in our organisation are maintained. Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
The role holder will:
? Degree qualified in own discipline or equivalent qualification.
? Chartered Engineer. (Or working towards Professional Registration ICE or IStructE)
? Post graduate experience in the design and construction of infrastructure projects.
? Experience of discipline specific industry standards and Codes of Practice relating to design, installation and maintenance is essential.
? Experience of other construction disciplines at any stage of the design/ construction lifecycle is desirable.
? Knowledge of CAD, in particular the production and manipulation of REVIT models is desirable.
? Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel, Project).
The role holder will:
• Good working experience across project lifecycle phases, demonstrating a whole- life approach to engineering
• Experienced at leading teams of engineers on projects
• Experience in customer facing role
• Good communicator with suppliers, sub-contractors, customers and the rest of the organisation
• Able to manage budgets and interpret financial data.
The role holder requires:
• This role requires an individual who has the ability to write and present comprehensive professional reports and articulate complex engineering concepts clearly.
• Must be able to exercise engineering judgement to make recommendations based on technical reasoning/ evidence available.
• Must be able to assess the viability, applicability and cost effectiveness of alternative solutions based on an understanding of typical industry solutions to common problems.
• Ability to develop bespoke engineering solutions to unique or constrained site arrangements or activities post completion.
The role will have impact on:
• On specific projects, will be the team subject matter expert on own discipline engineering matters.
• Provide peer technical advice to less experienced engineering team members.
• Must be able to have a good level of understanding of the engineering output of other disciplines to enable seemless integration of own designs.
The role will have impact on:
• Primarily across Real Estate Solutions but also across wider BAE Systems stakeholders and infrastructure assets
The role holder will require:
• It is imperative the successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills when dealing with customers, partners and suppliers and when involved in team discussions.
Must be able to articulate technical construction/ engineering concepts to non engineers in team and to customer.
