Smart Education is currently recruiting for a skilled and flexible professional to join a vibrant and welcoming special school as a Class Teacher for pupils aged 11-19 with autism as their primary diagnosis. The pupils at the school have an education, health, and care plan, with challenges in social interaction, communication, or understanding emotions that can affect their ability to access the curriculum.

Brief Overview of the Role:
As a Class Teacher, you will be responsible for adapting your teaching to ensure pupils are challenged appropriately and make progress. You will focus on achieving positive outcomes for young people, which may include teaching students in Key Stage 3, 4, or 5, and covering one of the school’s pathways, from formal academic curriculum to informal developmental curriculum. Applications are welcomed from teachers with any subject specialism and with experience in primary, secondary, or special schools.

  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual pupil needs
  • Passion for supporting young people with autism and additional needs

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A qualified teacher with experience in primary, secondary, or special schools
  • Experience working with students with autism or special educational needs
  • Proven ability to adapt teaching strategies to ensure progression and engagement
  • Familiarity with diverse curriculums, including academic and developmental pathways
  • Possession of an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check on the update service or willingness to obtain one
  • Knowledge and experience with safeguarding practices
