CLINICAL FELLOW CT 1/2 LEVEL IN TRAUMA & ORTHOPAEDICS
(FULL TIME)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for CT1/2 level posts as Clinical Fellows at the highly esteemed Trauma and Orthopaedic team at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. Commencing August 2025, this full time 6 months post with room to extend for 12 months, this provides the opportunity to work in a varied and challenging clinical role.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Duties
Working as part of a teamwork across both the elective and trauma teams to deliver:
Managing all ward based medical aspects of patient care in trauma and elective orthopaedics
On-Call including involvement in major trauma calls at a tertiary trauma centre
Prepare the trauma lists and help the trauma morning meetings when on call
Opportunity to do supervised days in theatre and outpatient clinic working.
The routine administrative content of this post e.g. the day-to-day running of your team's workload, sending patients, writing to General Practitioners etc. is allowed for in the timetable.

The Southmead Trauma and Orthopaedic department is a dynamic department comprising major trauma, tertiary referral centre for complex elective orthopaedics in the South West of England.
The Trauma team work closely with the regional Plastic and Vascular surgery teams in the management of Major Trauma and in addition it has excellent outcomes with ambulatory and elderly trauma including hip fractures.

This Senior House Officer CT1/2 equivalent is a great opportunity to improve work experience and CV for Higher training posts. The candidate will be working as part of the trauma and orthopaedic team rotating through trauma and elective duties. Clinical duties include managing patients on the ward perioperatively, be part of the oncall team alternating on the elective side and on the trauma side in a major trauma centre and tertiary referral elective centre. There will be opportunity for supervised days in theatre and outpatient clinic. The routine administrative content of this post e.g. the day-to-day running of your teams workload, sending patients, writing to General Practitioners etc. is allowed for in the timetable. There is weekly departmental teaching and the daily trauma meetings also have an educational component. There are abundant opportunities to get involved in audit, research and teaching, all required to meet criteria for progression in training.It is desirable that candidates have experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent. The post holder will be required to work flexibly within the department. Candidates must have, or be eligible for, GMC registration that allows them to work in posts that are not recognised for training.

- MB BS
- Maintain Full registration with the GMC, with a license to practice.
- MRCS or working towards a MRCS or equivalent

- Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
- Completed pre-registration year (or equivalent outside the UK).
- Not more than 3 years' experience as a SHO.
- Evidence of training progression
- ATLS
- Evidence of Postgraduate activities
- Previous experience in Orthopaedics. At least 6 months experience at SHO level.
- Interest in pursuing a career in surgery or A& E
- Not more than 4 years experience as SHO
