Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine

Posted a day ago

Come and join us in Bangor for a fabulous six or twelve months' Emergency Medicine experience in a rural ED, with a fantastic reputation for junior doctor training.
We are happy to welcome doctors who wish to just have a taster of EM prior to doing something else, or those committed to a career in the specialty.
This post is identical in every way to our deanery training posts: there's protected teaching every Thursday afternoon within the ED, plus a variety of other tutorials and teaching sessions. You will also have an educational supervisor to help you achieve your career aims. Plus, we can offer you up to 11 days personal development time to attend suitable training opportunities.
You will have excellent shop-floor support from enthusiastic senior and middle grade (ST3+) doctors, and the rota is carefully designed to minimise fatigue, with night shifts being a maximum of four shifts in a row.
For doctors who can commit to a 12 month post we can offer less than full time working either as annualised hours (perfect if you want to go off on expeditions) or a LTFT weekly rota (to combine medicine with another passion or just optimise your life work balance).
Main duties of the job
Personal development time to undertake taster days or weeks, or other educational opportunities - 11 days in 6 months. This is in addition to study leave for appropriate courses.
Teaching experience is easily available: we host final-year medical students from Cardiff & Swansea University, as well as nursing and paramedic students and trainee ACPs.
All doctors have the opportunity to complete an audit or quality improvement project and we participate in the RCEM national audits. We are also very happy to support resident doctors wishing to gain experience in projects such as protocol design.
ALS, ATLS and EPALS courses are held in the hospital plus we give you sufficient study leave budget to fund the course.
Ysbyty Gwynedd ED hosts the Bangor Mountain Medicine Project, an innovative partnership between the ED, local Mountain Rescue Teams and the Search & Rescue helicopter that is a constant source of posters and presentations for medical students and some of our junior doctors.
Weekly teaching in paid work time - four hours each week.
For doctors interested in pre-hospital care, we are happy to arrange work experience placements with our Welsh Ambulance colleagues (must have undertaken a one-day V& A course).
