The post holder will provide professional clinical leadership and expertise in enhanced care and management support for complex care plans.�

The post holder will line manage the antenatal and postnatal areas and will lead on ensuring staff are proficient in recognising, escalating and managing critical ill women and babies jointly with the MDT.

As a key member of the Senior Management Team you will be working closely with the MDT to maintain high standards of maternity care and implementing the JPUH Maternity Improvement Plan.�

The post holder will be responsible for providing midwifery leadership to the clinical areas, which will include working clinically for up to 50% of the role and contributing to the operational management within Maternity.�

You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective use of resources and the development & maintenance of the highest standards of care and efficient service delivery.

This role will include on call. This role is a rotational role and you may be asked to work or rotate in other areas/departments as per service needs.





Main duties of the job





To provide comprehensive management and� expert opinion of the theatre and complex care within the services.

-Developing care pathways with the MDT team for patients requiring enhanced care.�

-Line managing the antenatal, postnatal and infant feeding services.

-Responsibility for the monitoring of the budget within the speciality

-Having an integral role in supporting the department with the educational requirements for the staff within inpatient and outpatient settings around enhanced care and recognition of the deteriorating patients.�

-Be instrumental in developing learning opportunities and environments in the clinical practice environment.

-Support team with expert enhanced maternal care (EMC) knowledge and skills and be willing to complete the EMC competencies/ advanced midwifery practice course (level negotiable, L7 supported).�

-Provide professional, clinical and managerial leadership to midwifery and associated staff.

-Support transformation and quality improvement in the maternity services as part of the Maternity Improvement Plan and other national/regional drivers as required.

-Act as Midwifery Lead for guidelines.

-Act as Transitional Care Lead within the department and work closely with the neonatal team to comply with safety action 3 of the maternity incentive scheme.

-Support the MDT in developing care plan for women requiring enhanced care or care outside guidance.�

-Deputise for the Head of Midwifery when/as required





EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS



Essential criteria




  • Registered Midwife

  • Midwifery Degree

  • MSc in Midwifery or equivalent level of experience at band 7 or above

  • Willing to undertake the Enhanced Midwifery/Advanced Midwifery Qualification

  • Experience in leading on quality improvement initiatives and governance activities

  • Mentorship or SSSA



Desirable criteria




  • Neonatal life support certification and/or instructor



KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE



Essential criteria




  • Post Registration Management Experience at Band 7 or above

  • Managerial experience, including budget management

  • Teaching in a multidisciplinary environment

  • Successful deliveries of internal and external regulatory requirements such as CNST and CQC

  • Evidence of knowledge and implementation of service improvements and clinical pathways



Desirable criteria




  • ITU/HDU experience
