About the Role

In this hands-on role, you will play a key part in maintaining and optimising a DMVPN network, managing AWS-based CSR 8000v routers, and delivering advanced Linux troubleshooting and automation. You will be the go-to technical expert, advising leadership on best practices, network improvements, and automation strategies while working closely with the Comms team to support a large-scale infrastructure spanning over 2,700+ sites.

Your Role & Responsibilities

DMVPN & AWS Network Management (40%)

  • Maintain and optimise a DMVPN network terminating into dual CSR 8000v routers.
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and redundancy across AWS-hosted network environments.
  • Troubleshoot complex network issues in a fast-paced, uptime-sensitive setting.
  • Work closely with the Comms team to support router and PC provisioning across 2,700+ sites.
  • Keep detailed documentation of network topology, configurations, and architecture.

Infrastructure Optimisation & Root Cause Analysis (20%)

  • Identify and resolve network and system bottlenecks.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) to eliminate recurring network and system faults.
  • Develop strategies for business continuity, failover testing, and disaster recovery.

Advanced Linux Support & Monitoring (20%)

  • Provide advanced Linux troubleshooting for distributed hosts.
  • Automate recurring Linux administration tasks to improve efficiency.
  • Manage monitoring tools (Zabbix, New Relic, CloudWatch) to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Develop automated alerting and logging to improve response times and reduce downtime.

DevOps & Automation (20%)

  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or Ansible.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
  • Improve monitoring and proactive issue detection using CloudWatch, Prometheus, or similar tools.
  • Develop Python/Bash scripts to streamline network operations and system maintenance.

What They're Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong expertise in Cisco networking (routing, switching, VPNs, security, DMVPN).
  • Hands-on experience with AWS Cloud Networking:
  • VPC, VPN, GRE, BGP, and IPsec tunnels
  • Network ACLs, Security Groups, and Route Tables
  • Proven experience in Linux administration, troubleshooting, and automation.
  • Strong knowledge of network and system monitoring tools (Zabbix, New Relic, CloudWatch, NetFlow, Wireshark).
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues in high-uptime, reactive environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CCNP certification (or equivalent experience with Cisco networking).
  • Experience managing AWS-hosted network environments, particularly with CSR8000v virtual routers.
  • Proficiency in Python/Bash scripting for network automation.
  • Familiarity with Terraform, Ansible, or other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.

Soft Skills:

  • Self-motivated with the ability to take ownership of network and infrastructure management.
  • Strong communication skills, working effectively with leadership and technical teams.
  • Ability to balance proactive improvements with reactive problem-solving to maintain uptime and service reliability.
