The Role
We are seeking a CNC Cylindrical and Surface Grinder Setter/Operator to play a key role in our production process. Your expertise in setting up, operating, and maintaining advanced grinding machines will ensure the delivery of high-quality components.
You will work with cutting-edge equipment, including Jones and Shipman Ultra and Suprema Easy Universal CNC grinders, and help us transition to new investments like the Studer S33 and DMG Vertical Mate CNC grinders in 2025-26. This role involves working with a variety of materials such as metal, steel, and alloys.
Reporting to: Production Supervisor
Collaboration: Work closely with on-site and off-site teams.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation
* Set up and operate cylindrical and surface grinding machines.
* Perform grinding operations on metals, steel, and alloys.
* Handle wheel dressing and grinding wheel management.
Quality Assurance
* Conduct in-process inspections using precision instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers).
* Ensure finished components meet technical specifications and quality standards.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
* Conduct routine machine maintenance.
* Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime
Documentation
* Record production data accurately.
* Report deviations and suggest process improvements.
Flexibility
* Adapt to additional tasks and responsibilities to support business needs.
What You Bring
*
Proven experience as a CNC Grinder Operator in a precision engineering environment.
*
Strong understanding of grinding principles and technical specifications.
*
Proficiency in using precision measuring tools and performing routine machine maintenance.
*
Ability to interpret technical drawings and ensure compliance with design requirements.
*
Dedication to safety, quality, and teamwork.
Qualifications
*
GCSEs or A-Levels (or equivalent).
*
Vocational training or apprenticeship in machining (preferred).
*
Certifications in precision grinding (a plus).
