Commercial and Bid Manager - Rail - £65,000 – Derby

The Opportunity

We're currently looking for a well-rounded commercially-minded rail professional to step into the key position of Commercial & Bid Manager on behalf of a rail overhaul and maintenance company in central Derby. You could be from a project manager background, a commerical or bid manager background, however knowledge of the rail sector would be highly desirable.

The Role

This is a key hire to directly replace the skillset possessed by the previous owner of the business. This person will be responsible for providing high levels of accountability across the business’ project operations and its finances. 

You will be acting as the sense checker against all projects, operations, budgets and costings, whose expertise would be used across the whole business.

A critical role to the business’ operations, this is a well varied and commercially focused position, responsible for having a deep understanding of the nature of the business’s operations and the associated costs.

The role is focused on commercially managing performance against KPI’s and budgets and providing commercial scrutiny of the bids process.

A core focus will be to implement new, formalized and sustained processes that work within the new structure.

Candidate Essentials


  • Experience in a commercially orientated position in a rail rolling stock environment
  • Comfortable in a numerical and spreadsheet driven role. Finance background is also suitable.
  • Strong willed – ability to extract commercially driven information against specific measurables.
