JOB DESCRIPTION We have a newly created Underwriter position within our Commercial Lines UK team to support our sustained and continued growth plans. This role will have a focused lens on UK-domiciled business writing monoline Property & Real Estate whilst maintaining and establishing relationships with aligned regional brokers. Surrounded by supportive colleagues our market-facing underwriters own their own book of business, including a blend of new and existing business, with exposure across complex and technical risks. We empower our underwriters to use their subject matter expertise and experience, with referrals required only where necessary. We are keen to speak with those looking to make their next move YOUR NEW ROLE Underwrite insurance risks in accordance with the business plan and the delegated underwriting authority to meet business objectives including: Negotiating rates terms and conditions for existing and new business Compliance of production and issue of contract certainty documentation (non Lloyds) Ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations and guidelines Ensuring contribution to the business plan and objectives Support credit control in payment collection Establish, strengthen and develop relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues to maximize influence and achieve business objectives Demonstrate an understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycle to enhance business performance Participate in all relevant meetings in order to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice Positively promote the department, division and company as a whole in order to maximize brand leverage Perform underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimize risk and maximize efficiency Ensure the recording and measurement of insurance risks, (including DUA s if relevant) to ensure accuracy and good practice Understand and comply with any reinsurance requirements to minimize risk and to deliver business plan objectives Maintain expertise and team knowledge through identifying appropriate learning and development activities Participate in the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress toward business objectives Ensure entries are properly and promptly recorded on EO systems to ensure accuracy of data in relation to: Underwriting Aggregate exposures Contribute to the aggregate management and peer review processes to encourage and develop excellence ABOUT YOU High level of numeracy, organisational, analytical and interpersonal skills Thorough understanding of class specific underwriting and reinsurance knowledge - Property Good broker network relationships Proven expertise of relevant market conditions for specific class/portfolio Intermediate level understanding of relevant software including Excel and other departmental software packages Demonstrable knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements (specific reference to FSA/Lloyds regulation) Familiar with our underwriting process and procedures including EPA s Knowledge of relevant company underwriting systems
