Job Title: Commercial Manager - Rail (Mechanical & Electrical)

Location: London, UK (Hybrid: 3 days in office, 2 days remote)

Salary: Up to £100,000 per annum

Job Description:

Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Manager with a strong background in the rail industry, specifically in mechanical and electrical disciplines. The successful candidate will be based in London and will play a crucial role in managing the commercial aspects of our projects. This role offers a hybrid working model, with three days a week in the office and the remainder remote.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Contract Management:

    • Oversee the preparation, negotiation, and management of contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
    • Ensure compliance with contractual terms and conditions.
    • Manage contract variations and resolve disputes effectively.
  2. Financial Oversight:

    • Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
    • Monitor project costs and implement cost control measures.
    • Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making.
  3. Tendering and Procurement:

    • Lead the tendering process, including the preparation of tender documents, evaluation of bids, and selection of contractors.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors.
    • Ensure procurement activities are conducted in line with company policies and best practices.
  4. Risk Management:

    • Identify and assess commercial risks associated with projects.
    • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  5. Stakeholder Management:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and internal stakeholders.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for commercial issues.
    • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management.
  6. Project Management Support:

    • Collaborate with project managers to ensure commercial objectives are aligned with project goals.
    • Support the delivery of projects on time and within budget.
    • Provide commercial advice and guidance to project teams.
  7. Team Leadership:

    • Lead and mentor a team of commercial professionals.
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
    • Ensure the team adheres to best practices and company policies.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., RICS, CIPS) is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in commercial management within the rail industry, with a focus on mechanical and electrical projects.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale projects and complex contracts.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid working environment.
