What the role required:

The primary function of this role is to assume ownership and accountability for commercial contract management across the organisation, offering advice and guidance throughout the UKAEA. Additionally, the post will oversee and manage commercial relationships with Tier 1 suppliers on behalf of UKAEA. This includes negotiating variations to contractual obligations, ensuring outcomes align with affordability constraints, mitigating contract risk, and delivering value for money. The role also involves collaborative work with strategic suppliers to ensure mutual interests are met and contractual obligations are fulfilled.

As part of a supply chain team, the Commercial Contract Manager ensures that key documentation remains current and accurate and that various elements of the obligations in the contract are delivered by our suppliers. This role will encompass a diverse range of tasks, including activities related to commercial relationships and contractual delivery. These tasks involve verifying written or physical evidence of delivery by our suppliers to ensure that any last-minute service changes adhere to the terms of the contract.
Your day is likely to include periods of unsupervised working on commercial contract administration, but also periods in which you will support more senior commercial members of the team in meetings and forums that may include every aspect of the provision of commercial contract management. This role is an exciting and demanding position and is aimed at those seeking to develop in the realm of contract and commercial management. Accountabilities:


* Principal Stakeholder for Subcontracts: Assume the key role in managing and overseeing all project and program subcontracts with industry partners.
* Contract Project Manager Support: Provide support to a team of 5-10 Contract Project Managers handling contracts collectively valued at approximately �40 million.
* Commercial Registers and Reporting: Develop and maintain a suite of commercial registers (e.g., CEMAR) to contribute to broader project reporting, including progress updates, financial monitoring, contractual issues, correspondence, and Early Warning Notices (EWNs).
* Ownership of Contract Financial Models: Establish and robustly maintain contract financial models.
* Collaboration with Project Controls: Collaborate with Project Controls to facilitate efficient handling of financial information within the Project Management Team.
* Commercial Guidance and Interpretation: Assist the Project Management Team and Contract Project Managers with commercial matters, including contract interpretation and advice.
* Change Control Leadership: Lead and manage change control across Work Packages and contracts, ensuring correct administration and adherence to contractual periods. Capture and report on changes at the project level.
* Work Order Number Management: Manage and control Project Work Order Numbers aligned with the Work Breakdown Structure.
* Corporate Liaison: Serve as a liaison between the project and corporate functions, including Commercial, Legal, Procurement, and Supply Chain.
* Payment Assessment and Supplier Performance: Oversee the assessment of Applications for Payment and invoice verification and approval. Provide recommendations and justifications for Project Manager Assessments. Monitor, track, and report on supplier performance based on contract Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other relevant metrics.
* Supplier Audits and Feedback: Develop and deploy supplier audits, including quality and performance checks. Regularly provide contract performance feedback to suppliers.
* Project and Risk Reviews: Contribute to and attend monthly project and risk reviews, reviewing risk valuations and ensuring accurate capture within the project financial model.
* Smooth Contract Handover: Liaise with the corporate procurement function to ensure a seamless handover during contract award, including the continuation of contractual obligations.
Budget Responsibility:


* Supporting control of procurement costs within agreed budgets.
Specific Qualifications/Experience:
* Extensive experience managing procurements of capital equipment and/or engineering contracts
* Proficient in NEC3 and NEC4 forms of contract [PSC / SC / ECC]
* Experience interfacing with commercial, legal and procurement functions
* Direct experience managing supplier / partner subcontracts >�10M
* Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
* Be a good team player with ability to work effectively as part of the Group Procurement Team
Desirable:


* MCIPS Qualified
* Contract management qualification
* Contract Management Tools expertise (eg CEMAR)
Line management experience
Other Duties:
* Mentoring and development of team members
* Where required, the provision of support to training programmes provided by the department.
