University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279) The Department of Gastroenterology of University Hospitals Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based on the St Richard's and Worthing Hospitals sites are seeking 4 new consultant appointments to significantly expand and enhance our existing team and to improve service delivery for gastroenterology in West Sussex.
Our close-knit and enthusiastic team are passionate about delivering high quality and innovative gastroenterology care across all subspecialties and would welcome interest from potential candidates. The posts would suit a recently completed NTN candidate seeking their first substantive consultant appointment or an established consultant seeking a professional opportunity in a new region. The post holders will deliver acute and elective work across both Worthing and St Richard's Hospitals. The precise nature of the timetable and main site of activity will depend on the specialist interests of interested and appointable candidates.
Main duties of the job Outpatient services in University Hospitals Sussex at Worthing and St Richard's Hospitals (this would include a contribution to the general service needs including TWR but also an opportunity to develop a specialist interest clinic service as well)
Endoscopy provision - predominantly diagnostic upper and lower GI endoscopy as well as GI bleeding therapeutics; n.b. other therapeutic skills and interests complementary to the department would also be welcomed.
Rotational commitment to the provision of care on our gastroenterology inpatient units (currently 2 weeks in 10 on both sites)
Rotational commitment to the out of hours GI bleed rota and weekend gastroenterology inpatient unit on calls (cross site) currently 1:10 weekends, 1:11 weekdays; please note there is no GIM on call responsibilities in this role
An opportunity to develop specialist service delivery in line with existing individuals' skills and departmental capacity - current areas specifically in need of expansion are HPB medicine (including ERCP/EUS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease although other interests would be considered for a high quality candidate.

Person Specification Experience & Qualifications Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
CCT in Gastroenterology or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
Clinical Skills & Experience Broad experience of gastroenterology and subspecialist working
Independently competent in upper GI endoscopy inclusive of management of gastrointestinal haemorrhage
Independently competent in lower GI endoscopy
Understanding of clinical risk management
An ability to communicate well with patients and staff
Independently competent in ERCP
Independently competent, or having a desire to achieve competence in EUS
Subspecialty experience and training in advanced
Knowledge Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
Organisation & Planning Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
Teaching Skills Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
Recognised teaching qualification
Endoscopy training the trainers qualification
Academic & Research Evidence of participation in audit
