Directorates of Medicine University Hospitals Dorset (both RBCH and PGH sites)
We are looking to appoint 2 new colleagues to the Gastroenterology Department at University Hospitals Dorset, resulting from the merger between the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) and Poole General Hospital (PGH).
These are new permanent posts for two full-time (10PA with option of 11th) consultants gastroenterologists, though applicants wishing to work flexibly or less than full-time will be considered. Sub-specialist interests such as hepatology, IBD or nutrition would be desirable but not essential and any sub-specialty interest would be considered. ERCP/EUS is not required for these posts. It is essential that any applicant is highly competent and independent in therapeutic endoscopic management of GI bleeding and able to manage a wide variety of complex inpatient gastroenterology. Accreditation in General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology is essential.
The successful candidates will be joining a team of 8 Consultants at the PGH site and 15 consultants at the RBH site with a wide range of specialist interests including IBD, hepatology, ERCP/EUS and upper GI therapeutics. There are also 3 middle-grade staff, 7 WTE IBD nurses, 5 WTE liver nurses, 2 WTE Iron deficiency anaemia nurses and one WTE research nurse.
The merged gastroenterology department is one of the largest units in the South of England with high volume endoscopy well in excess of 25,000 procedures per annum, including specialist complex endoscopy. The merged unit will also allow for greater development of sub-specialty interests, whilst maintaining skills and expertise in general gastroenterology. Joining the department offers an exciting and unique opportunity to be involved in the re-design of gastroenterology services.
